4RAM or 8RAM capacity

I am new here. Been working on a few issues I had with my desktop.

Earlier today, I did an analysis with a scan, 'Crucial', to work out if my desktop had room for more RAM. 
It told me that it had 2RAM installed in one slot, that the 2nd slot was empty, and would provide room for adding more RAM.

It also told me that the system  Max Memory is 8RAM (2  slots for 2 banks of 1).
Since I hoped I could upgrade to 8 RAM, with 4 RAM in each slot I thought I had solved the problem.
The Crucial analysis came up with suggested compatible stick

Crucial 2GB DDR3-1600 UDIMM CT5509724

• DDR3 PC3-12800 • CL=11 • Unbuffered • NON-ECC • DDR3-1600 • 1.5V • 256Meg x 64 •
  
  This is only an extra 2 RAM.
  
  
  Then later I received a link for a place which specialises in RAM upgrades, and it told me that this model of pc only can have max of 4RAM. 
  
  
  What is correct? Can my current PC be upgraded to an 8RAM memory (4RAM in each slot), or is  4RAM (2RAM in each slot) the max?
  
  
  
  If it can have 8RAM afterall,   how do I find a compatible set of  4RAM memory sticks as I have only been given suggestions for the 2RAM stick.

Hi Hanneke,

According to HP specifications your Pc supports a maximum of 4GB of RAM

• Two DDR3 DIMM (240-pin) sockets
• Supported DIMM types:
  • PC3-8500 (DDR3-1066)
  • PC3-10600 (DDR3-1333)

There is dual channel support, so the best idea for performance and stability of your system is to insert two of the same sticks. You can buy kits online for good prize (2x2GB).

Windows 7 32-bit will not support more than 4GB anyway.

Thank you so much for your response and information to help me solve  the RAM  problem.

The overview of the system as shipped was very helpful. Slowly getting things solved now.

You mentioned that a Windows 7  32 bit  recognises 4 RAM, and not more..

The version of Windows 7 appears to be important, whether it is standard, Home, Professional, Ultimate and so on. I, as a lay person always called it  Windows 7, not realising the importance when it comes to hardware.
The version on my computer is Windows 7 Ultimate. 
That explains then the result in the scan of my system with Crucial which showed that  the max of memory would be 8 RAM.

Hi Hanneke,

HP manuals say that the maximum RAM is 4GB for your model. You see first it is important how much RAM the motherboard (Bios) is able to recognize without looking at the OS. Now crucial says 8GB and it is possible that 8GB will work. You can try it (you will need a 64-bit operating system.

As you can see on the link you posted all 32-bit operating system can adress a maximum of 4GB of RAM. You posted that you have windows 7 32-bit Ultimate installed which will only support max 4GB of RAM.
