You're very welcome.

The easiest way to do it would be to click on the blue Update Now button at the link below and hope it works.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

Good luck, and let me know if I can be of any further assistance.

Hi:

HP retires support for consumer class PC's that are 10 or more years old.

There are no BIOS updates that I could find for it.

You should be able to upgrade that model to W10, but looking at the specs, there are some devices that may not work such as the card reader and the modem.

So upgrade with the knowledge that these devices may not work, or don't proceed with the upgrade.

After you upgrade to W10, you will need to manually install the W8 nvidia graphics driver from the link below.

This is a two step process.

Download and save, but do not run this driver.

NVIDIA DRIVERS GeForce 309.08 Driver WHQL

Then download and install this free file utility.  The 2nd link at the top of the page is for 64 bit.

7-Zip (7-zip.org)

After you install 7-zip, right click on the nvidia graphics driver file you saved.

Have 7-Zip Extract to:  And let it extract the file into its folder name.

Once that is done, go to the device manager, click to expand the Display Adapters device manager category.

Click on the Microsoft Basic Display Adapter listed there.

Click on the driver tab.  Click on Update driver.

Select the Browse my computer for drivers option and browse to the driver folder that 7-Zip created.

Make sure the Include subfolders box is checked and the driver should install.

Then restart the PC.

If things don't work correctly on W10, you have 30 days to go back to W7 if you do not delete any of the installation/upgrade files.

Also you should be able to install the W10 audio driver from the link below...select the Windows 64 bit driver.

Mr. Tikkanen:

When I give instructions, I try to be very clear, providing step by step direction.  I am often annoyed by those that make assumptions, leaving out steps, and thus clarity.  Not so here!  Not being a techie, I was intimidated by what I saw as complexity in the process you provided.  Great instructions; no problems!

I would never have known with out a guide....Thanks again.

Now to try and install W-10.....

Just for the record, or for someone's database.  It appears that I have successfully changed the OS from W-7 to W-10 on two old machines, circa 2007 & 2009:

Product Description: HP Compaq dc5800 Microtower PC

Product Number: KR779UT

Product Description: HP Pavilion a6330f Desktop PC

Product Number: GX614AA

I was concerned that there was no BIOS update for the 2007 machine, as there was one for the 2009, but it appears to be working.

Great support!
