Hello. I have an older HP Envy all in one (23se-d394). Something is wrong with my audio driver. I have tried countless different methods to uninstall and reinstall audio drivers, but I can not get my audio to work at all. There is no sound coming out through my computer speakers, headphones, or any bluetooth device either. It shows as "high definition audio device" There are no error messages. It says the device is running normally and is the latest driver. I first tried fixing the driver when it said the audio services wasn't working and had the red circle down by the volume button. After I uninstalled the driver and tried to reinstall there was no sound. When I run the troubleshooter it says there may be an issue with the audio driver and tries to update it. Then I get the message that it failed and the steps couldn't fix the issue. I have tried watching multiple Youtube videos on different ways to fix this and nothing is working. I'm wondering if maybe the driver is somehow corrupted and not uninstalling correctly or reinstalling correctly. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Hi:
I see that your model does not have any W10 drivers on the support page.
The only suggestion I can offer would be to install the W10 IDT audio driver from a newer model PC and see if that resolves the problem. Restart the PC after installing the driver.

@SFBay7 -- at this point, just "give up".
- Enter BIOS SETUP, and "disable" the onboard audio.
- If you have a desktop computer, purchase an add-in sound-card, and connect your speakers to it.
- Or, for an All-In-One computer, or a notebook, purchase an USB-to-Audio adapter.
- Connect it to any available USB port.
- Connect your computer-speakers to the adapter.
- Done, and done inexpensively.

Thank you. I did download the file you suggested and it's showing the IDT high definition audio as the driver now down in the bottom right corner that controls the volume, but unfortunately there's still no sound. Any other thoughts?

You're very welcome.
I am kind of surprised that driver didn't work for you, as it usually does on the older 23" All in Ones with the IDT audio chip.
There is only one other thing you can easily try regarding drivers and that would be to see if this works...
Go to the device manager and click to expand the Sound, video and game controllers device category.
1. Select the IDT High Definition Audio CODEC under that category.
2. Select Driver tab.
3. Click the Update Driver button.
4. Select -> Browse my computer for driver software.
5. Select -> Let me pick from a list of device drivers on my computer.
6. Select the High Definition Audio Device (Not IDT High Def... this is important.) and click Next.
A warning message may appear but click Yes.
7. Windows has successfully updated your driver software.
8. Restart the PC.
The key is step 6.
If that doesn't work either, you may want to consider clean installing W10 and using the W10 IDT audio driver I posted earlier today.
Back up your files before attempting to reinstall W10.
You can make a bootable W10 USB installation flash drive with the Media creation tool from the link below.
Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)
After you get past the Install Now screen, you select the version of W10 you had upgraded to, and then you will be asked to enter a product key.
Select the 'I don't have a product key' option, and W10 will install and automatically activate once you are connected to the internet.

I tried that as well with no luck. Could it have something to do with the audio service? I did try restarting the audio service and changed some settings in there and I wonder if that did something to create this issue. Should I chose where it says to log on or the other option? I guess I could try putting everything back to what it was before but I don't recall what the previous settings were. Under services there are the windows audio properties and windows audio endpoint. What should those be set to?

The only other suggestion I can offer would be to make sure the PC's speakers are set as the default audio output.
Go to the Windows control panel>hardware & sound>manage audio devices, and set the PC speakers as the default if they aren't.
The Windows audio services on my PC where the sound is working, are:
Windows audio >running> automatic
Windows Audio Endpoint>running>automatic
If you search the forum 'IDT audio Windows 10,' you will find that sp71717 usually works, so when it doesn't, I don't really know what else to try other than what I have already suggested.
As a last resort, you can try the W8.1 driver from your PC's support page, but you usually get an error that states in substance that the driver is not supported.
https://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp63501-64000/sp63997.exe
If you have not recently updated W10 to a new build, and the sound had been working fine on W10 previously with the IDT audio device driver installed, your next step would be to troubleshoot for a hardware problem, and unfortunately, I wouldn't be able to help you with that.
