My laptop screen glitched out and shut down, when I turned the computer back on there was a black screen with a blue box of text saying my BIOS files were corrupted or missing and that I needed to redownload them from a different computer. I don’t have another computer.

Thank you very much for your help. I've tried all of the above but nothing worked. I ended up taking it to a repair shop as a last resort and they said it couldn't be fixed. The computer was on it's last life anyways and it was probably a good time to get a new one. Thank you again

Hi @ItsSoJover,
Welcome to the HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.
We understand that your system is showing a BIOS corruption error and is asking for recovery using another computer. Please do not worry, let’s first try restoring the BIOS directly on your laptop.
Step 1: Perform BIOS Restore (Key Combination Method)
- Turn off the laptop.
- Connect the AC adapter (charger).
- Press and hold the Windows + B keys.
- While holding the keys, press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds, then release the Power button (keep holding Windows + B).
- Wait for the HP BIOS Recovery / Update screen to appear.
- Follow the on-screen instructions to complete recovery.
➡️ This method attempts to recover BIOS from an internal backup automatically.
Step 2: If BIOS Restore Does Not Work
If the above steps do not bring up the recovery screen, then you will need a USB recovery drive created using another working computer. It's mandatory.
Step 3: Recover BIOS Using USB Drive
You will need access to another PC (even temporarily from a friend or service center).
Create the USB Recovery Drive
- Insert a blank USB drive into a working computer.
- Go to HP Software & Driver Downloads.
- Enter your laptop product number.
- Download the latest BIOS update file.
- Run the file → Select Create Recovery USB flash drive.
- Follow on-screen instructions to complete creation.
Use the USB to Recover BIOS
- Turn off your laptop.
- Insert the USB recovery drive.
- Press and hold the Windows + B keys.
- Press and hold the Power button for 2–3 seconds, then release the Power button (keep holding keys).
- Wait for BIOS recovery to start automatically.
- Follow on-screen instructions

Very similar question.
Elitebook 840 G8. Last week bios update run and looks failed for some reason (i left laptop in choice "update and shut down")
Monday, I tried to turn on it ... and nothing :
screen is black, "caps lock" flash 5 times, F5 and F8 is light up and after few seconds funs starts to run. No start "HP" screen, no possible to enter bios (F1, F9, F10, ESC)
If not some motherboard issue, looks bios is failed.
I tried Win+B and Win+V during boot - nothing help. Battery was disconnected earlier for some time.
Found this procedure to try boot with usb rescue disk, but looks also nothing change. But here I'm not sure if laptop is even not trying to read usb or is something wrong with rescue disk. During procedure of create recovery usb flash drive - when choose it from menu - it just creates on usb HP folder, empty BIOS and BiosUpdate subfolders and DEVFW subfolder with firmware.bin file. Is is proper disk for recovery?
If yes - looks not possible to restore it with this method. But I'm not sure if its ok rescue disk, especially that on youtube we can find some instructions for different models where structure and number of files on disk is different,
and help?, thx.
