HP All-in-One 22-c0xx
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I was able to restore the BIOS in my new computer.  Recently, there was a power outage while my pc was OFF.  But after turning pc on, this same message in blue screen appeared again...'The CMOS checksum is invalid...'  So i followed the same procedure to recover the BIOS again.  It worked.  Now i'm wondering is it normal that i have to restore the BIOS every time after a power outage??  Thanks!

Hi

The BIOS is maintained by the CMOS/RTC battery usually and it may need replacing.

Which COxx is it?

Hi

Not quite what I said...

Usually, not all PC's have a CMOS/RTC battery and its job is to maintain the Time Date and options like secure boot or boot sequence.

So if your PC was unplugged, same as a power outage, cept for any surge or spike, does it need fixing after being plugged back in?

Probably all is fine with with it.

Hi, thank you for your reply.

Last time i unplugged it for about 3 hours ...'The CMOS checksum is invalid.' message appeared again when i power on my pc.  All i did was recovering the BIOS again...that's it...no other fixing.

The first time after restoring the BIOS, i did unplug it just to see if that message will pop up again and it didn't.  But i don't remember how long i unplugged it for though.  I will unplug it again tomorrow and see how it goes.

The CMOS/RTC is also supported by a small capacitor in some cases that is sufficient for a short dis-connection, but not a lengthy one.

So i tried unplugging it for just half hour today and that same 'CMOS checksum is invalid' message popped up again.

Is it okay to just keep restoring the BIOS whenever my pc needs to be unplugged/power outage etc.. ??

Thank you.
