Microsoft Windows 11

Hello,
I have the following problem: During a Windows 11 update, Windows also initiated a BIOS update. After a reboot, the BIOS update ran smoothly. After a reboot, I keep getting the error message: "BIOS image file cannot be opened." I've already removed the CMOS battery, disconnected the hard drive, downloaded the BIOS Recovery Tool from the HP support website, and created a USB flash drive. Unfortunately, nothing is happening except that the computer displays the HP logo and constantly restarts (10 minutes or more).

I need help, please... Thanks in advance...

@daviddst, Welcome to HP Support Community,

Thank you for posting your query; I’m here to help by guiding you through steps to resolve this issue

The issue you're encountering with the BIOS can be troubling, but here are detailed steps and recommendations based on HP's guidelines to attempt a resolution:

Step-by-step troubleshooting:

Reset CMOS:

  • Since you've already removed the CMOS battery, ensure it is placed correctly back.
  • Check for proper placement of the CMOS jumper if applicable.

Power and Boot Sequence:

  • Disconnect all peripheral devices (except the monitor, keyboard, and mouse).
  • Press and hold the power button for approximately 5 seconds to ensure the computer turns off completely.
  • Press the power button, and as the computer starts, press Esc repeatedly to access the Startup Menu.
  • Select the location where the recovery media (USB or DVD) is inserted and press Enter to boot from that device.

Initiate BIOS Recovery:

  • With the BIOS Recovery Tool loaded on the USB flash drive, follow these specific steps to initiate recovery:
    • Clear CMOS: Ensure the system is completely powered down and no residual power is left.
    • Insert USB Flash Drive: Plug the BIOS Recovery Tool USB into a USB port.
    • Start Recovery: Turn on the computer and repeatedly press the Windows + B keys (or Windows + V keys on some models), and press the power button simultaneously. Release the power button while still holding the key combination until the BIOS recovery screen appears.

BIOS Recovery Tool Procedures:

Creating and using BIOS Recovery Tool USB Flash Drive:

Download BIOS Recovery Tool:

  • Visit the HP Support website and download the latest BIOS Recovery Tool for your specific HP model.

Create Recovery USB:

  • Run the executable for the BIOS Recovery Tool after downloading.
  • Follow on-screen prompts to create the recovery USB flash drive.

Recover BIOS from USB:

  • Insert USB drive with the HP BIOS Recovery Tool.
  • Use the key combination mentioned above to start recovery.
