HP TouchSmart 300-1020 Desktop PC
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

I have an old HP TouchSmart desktop with windows 7 (this is an old personal computer, we have other newer HP models in the house), but my husband kept using the old HP and saved his pictures and some personal files in it.  But now the PC does not start, I get the message "BOOTMGR is compressed"  "Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to resart".  I do all that and it does not start.  I did turn it off and press F10 and also did it pressing F8 and it does not start.  Some one told me to use the recovery CD but it didn't come with one and we never made one (sorry, my fault).  I would like to get his files and pictures from the old computer (by the way he already got a new one, but I need the old files).........any help will be greatly appeciated. (FYI...we're not computer people, meaning we just know the basics to use them)...........Thanks !!

Hello
it can be a material problem!
You can try several things in order to try to recover your data, I give some explanations here, but in French!

que faire en cas d' erreur / échec dst du disque dur - HP Support Community - 7338574

You can try a bootable cd / dvd type live cd (linux)

https://www.online-tech-tips.com/computer-tips/how-to-retrieve-windows-files-using-a-linux-live-cd/

you can try removing the hard drive, in order to connect it to another computer internally, or with a usb adapter!

https://www.muo.com/tag/connect-get-data-off-hard-drive/
If your disk is not completely out of order, this gives you a small chance

So, first try live cd for Try to recover data / photos

and check, this may help

Rebuild Boot Configuration Data (BCD) File

I had a similar situation a few days ago. I recommend booting through Windows Safe Mode. You can then go to the Windows error log to see what error is causing the crash. It was code 0x8024a105 for me, so I started reading information on this topic. I managed to find a solution on the site. You may have a different code and a different solution to the problem.
