Hello, I have had this laptop for roughly 7 months and I have already been running into battery life issues, it runs for about 3 hours before I need to charge it again. Is there a way for me to prolong my battery life? I am already doing all that is recommended to me in the settings.

Hi @k4yl40589,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
It’s frustrating to have battery issues on a relatively new laptop, but there are still a few steps you can take to improve battery life beyond the standard recommendations.
1. Check Battery Health
Since the laptop is only 7 months old, check if the battery is degrading abnormally:
- Open Command Prompt (Win + X → Terminal).
- Type: powercfg /batteryreport and press Enter.
- Navigate to the location of the generated report and open it in a browser.
- Compare Design Capacity vs. Full Charge Capacity to check for any major loss in battery health.
If the Full Charge Capacity is significantly lower than the Design Capacity, the battery may be degrading too quickly.
2. Update BIOS & Drivers
- Go to HP Support website → Enter your model → Download and install the latest BIOS and chipset drivers.
- Ensure HP Battery Health Manager is set to “Maximize My Battery Health” in BIOS (if available).
3. Reduce Background Activity
Even if you’ve optimized settings, some hidden apps might be draining power:
- Open Task Manager (Ctrl + Shift + Esc) → Go to the Startup Apps tab → Disable unnecessary programs.
- Open Settings > Apps > Installed Apps → Uninstall apps you don’t use.
4. Adjust Power Mode & Display Settings
- Lower Display Brightness: Reduce brightness to ~50%.
- Change Power Mode: Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery, and set it to Best Power Efficiency.
- Disable Unnecessary Animations: Go to Settings > Accessibility > Visual Effects → Turn off transparency and animations.
5. Check for Battery Draining Apps
- Go to Settings > System > Power & Battery → Under Battery Usage, check which apps are using the most power.
- If an app is draining battery excessively, restrict its background activity or uninstall it.
6. Perform Battery Calibration (if needed)
If your battery percentage is inaccurate, recalibrating may help:
- Charge your laptop to 100% and leave it plugged in for ~30 mins.
- Unplug and use the laptop until it shuts down due to low battery.
- Charge it back to 100% without interruption.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
