Hi @Pjk126,
Welcome to HP Support Community.
Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
If your computer is not booting up properly and you're able to access the BIOS screen, there could be several reasons for this issue. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot.
-
Check Connections:
- Ensure that all cables, including power cables and monitor cables, are securely connected.
- Make sure there are no loose connections or damaged cables.
-
Reset BIOS Settings:
- While in the BIOS, check for an option to reset the BIOS settings to default.
- This option is usually called "Load Setup Defaults" or something similar.
- Save the changes and exit the BIOS.
-
Check Boot Order:
- In the BIOS settings, navigate to the boot menu and ensure that your primary boot device (usually the hard drive) is selected correctly.
- If you recently added new hardware, ensure that the boot order reflects the correct configuration.
-
Test with Minimal Hardware:
- Disconnect all unnecessary peripherals and hardware components (external drives, additional RAM, etc.).
- Try booting with only the essential components connected.
-
Reseat RAM and Expansion Cards:
- Power off the computer and reseat the RAM modules and any expansion cards (graphics card, etc.).
- Ensure they are properly seated in their respective slots.
-
Check for Hardware Issues:
- Run a diagnostic test on your hardware components, if available in the BIOS.
- If you have a diagnostic tool or a bootable USB with diagnostic software, use it to check for hardware issues.
-
Boot from a Live USB/DVD:
- Create a bootable USB drive or DVD with a live operating system.
- Boot from this external device and see if your computer operates normally.
-
Check for Disk Errors:
- If you suspect a hard drive issue, run a disk check utility.
- You can do this from a bootable USB with a diagnostic tool or from the Windows installation media.
-
Update BIOS Firmware:
- Check if there's a BIOS update available for your motherboard on the HP website.
- Follow the manufacturer's instructions for updating the BIOS.
Remember to proceed with caution when making changes in the BIOS, as incorrect settings can potentially cause further issues.
I hope this helps.
Take care and have a good day.
