Did you enter the 25-character product-key on the decal stuck to your originally-Windows-7 computer ?

Id really like to avoid paying more money at this point. Id just like to use Windows 10 that I bought with my new Hard drive.

I used the windows key that is stuck on the side of my pc. It was explained to me before, that an os preinstalled on a manufactured computer would not be able to be used again.  Otherwise I would have just installed Windows 7 again.

Thanks for your time.

That product-key allows you to install Windows onto the "same" computer, as many times as you want.

Note that Microsoft allows a bit of leeway: changing a disk-drive does not make it a "non-same" computer.

Adding RAM does not make it a "non-same" computer.

Changing the CD/DVD device does not make it a "non-same" computer.

Doing all three of the above does not make it a "non-same" computer.

Changing a network adapter (which usually means changing the entire motherboard), AND changing some other components PROBABLY makes it a "non-same" computer.

Microsoft has a "points" system -- score too many points, and you have a "non-same" computer.

Compare to the scoring-system for show-horse jumping -- one or two "faults" may prevent you from winning, while scoring too many faults will prevent you from winning.
