Hi,
I wondereed if anyone could possible spare some time and advise?
I have TWO Windows 10 detaachable laptops under warrantry. At two seperate time powering on the system has been troublesome and then when the systyems does poer on i'm locked out needed a Microsoft BIT LOCKER RECOVERY KEY.
I have an active McAfee Virsuscan and up to date protection so surely it cannot be a virus?
So i ask why and what is a BIT LOCKER encyption and Why when bought my HP devices i wasnt supplied a recovery key so how can i obtain it? HP support have given me Microsofts support number who...... say we're not giving you a key. So my HP devices remain unoperational?
Can anyone advise please?

Hello,
Welcome to the HP Support forum.
BitLocker is Microsoft's WIndows Encryption software.
What you see is preboot authentication screen because it notices some issues in the boot process and asks for Recovery Key to authenticate you. This is not connected to HP, HP support, this is Windows feature. The purpose of BitLocker is to encrypt your data so that if your PC gets stolen to protect your PC from unauthorized people. If your HDD (data) is not encrypted, it remains readable and easily accessible for anyone with physical access to the PC.
General info on BitLocker:

Even more info - re. Recovery key

I suspect your recovery key is available in Microsoft's OneDrive space >> http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=237614
>> https://onedrive.live.com/recoverykey
Login there and check.
Use it to login to your PC.
Eventually, if you prefer you can disable BitLocker and turn off device encryption.
P.S.The fact that you have McAfee running does not give you 100% or even 90% guarantee your PC will be free from viruses, malware, attacks - trust me 🙂
Let me know if you face difficulties. Hope this helps.
