Pavilion 27xi monitor

I have an HP Pavilion 27xi monitor, a few years old.  About a year ago a blue vertical line appeared and then disappeared on the screen.  After a while it has stayed there.  I have changed the HDMI cable, tried a DVI and RS15 cables and no change.  Hooked those cables to a different monitor and did not have the problem.  All drivers have been updated.  Sounds like a monitor problem but I want to make certain.  I will live with it rather than buying a new monitor.

Hi @ELG,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

A blue vertical line on an HP Pavilion 27xi monitor can be an indication of a hardware issue. Vertical lines on a monitor are often caused by problems with the monitor's display panel or the graphics card of the computer it's connected to. Here are some steps you can take to diagnose and potentially resolve the issue.

  • Check the Cable Connection: Make sure the cable connecting your computer to the monitor is securely plugged in at both ends. Sometimes, a loose or damaged cable can cause display issues.
  • Try a Different Cable: If the cable seems fine, try using a different cable to connect your computer to the monitor. This can help rule out cable-related problems.
  • Test with a Different Computer: Connect the monitor to a different computer to see if the blue line persists. If the line is still there on another computer, it's likely a monitor issue. If not, it could be related to the graphics card or settings on your original computer.
  • Update Graphics Drivers: Ensure that your graphics card drivers are up-to-date. Outdated or corrupted drivers can sometimes cause display problems. Visit the HP website to download the latest drivers for your graphics card.
  • Check Display Settings: Adjust the monitor's display settings, including the resolution and refresh rate, to see if the blue line disappears. Incorrect settings can lead to display anomalies.
  • Test in Safe Mode: Boot your computer into Safe Mode and see if the blue line still appears. Safe Mode loads only essential drivers and can help determine if the issue is related to third-party software or drivers.
  • Inspect for Physical Damage: Examine the monitor's screen closely for any physical damage. If there's physical damage, such as a cracked or damaged screen, that could be the source of the problem, and the monitor may need to be repaired or replaced.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
