Hello mdklassen,
I wanted to thank you as well for the information you added to the resolution of my CD-DVD ROM Drive issue, especially with respect to my decision to update the BIOS or not. I have not had over heating issues.
HOWEVER, as I mentioned earlier, I had recently replaced a memory chip. I mistakenly ordered a 2 Gig memory KIT (which consisted of 2, 1 Gig chips. When it arrived, I thought (mistake #2) they had mistakenly sent me two 2 Gig chips, so I installed one of the chips, intending to keep the other as a spare.
When I ran the diagnostics on the memory after installation to confirm the new chip was OK, I noticed I had only 7 Gig total of RAM, instead of 8 and understood mistakes #1 & #2. The store where I purchased it was kind enough to exchange the two 1 Gig chips for one 2 Gig chip and I was happy, thinking I had resolved mistakes #1 & #2.
Upon reflection, of the whole incident, it seems possible mistakes #1 & #2 resulted in my CD/DVD issue; although my system did not "hang" while running with only 7 Gig of memory.
I thought I would share this bit of what may be "extraneous" information in hopes it might help you or someone else with an issue similar to mine.
Thanks again for your help.
Best Regards,
Don (Windy-Bill, a nickname well deserved)
