Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

While playing World of Warcraft the computer just shut off, no warning, just shut off. Fans and such were nasty so I cleaned them. Tried to turn it back on and nothing.  Checked power and the green led light comes on then hit the power button the light goes off. I would like to troubleshoot this myself before taking it to the 'computer doctor'. One such guy told me it's a bad power supply, just from telling him this. Looking for second opinion, and possibly what kind of replacement power supply should I get?

@majikat, welcome to the forum.

I have to agree with the diagnosis from the person who told you that it is the power supply unit (PSU).  Here is a video that will help you test it:

You should be cautious while doing the test as mentioned by the presenter.

Hi

I have had a similar problem with several Pcs and while I am not a qualified technician,  I think that there is a chance  have a motherboard or CPU problem. The power supply powers every component and when it blows it can cause surges damaging other components.

Your pc appears to be very high end, but unfortunately if the the power supply blows it can take just about any part of the computer with it (often the motherboard and CPU)  I would be careful about spending a fortune as if the motherboard or CPU is blown your computer has unfortunately become a very expensive metal box. I would recommend attempting to repair it as replacing it would be expensive and not environmentally friendly, but only if the repair is practical. Fortunately a PSU is under £100 and can be fitted easily and if no other damage is done your pc will last several more years.

I hope it is repairable but I thought I would warn you as my old pc's motherboard ,PSU, graphics card and Memory failed  all at once!

@old_geekster So I took it in finally, and it is the power supply. Unfortunately my hard drive is also on its last leg, but am getting that replaced also. I'm glad the whole system didn't get fried and it was a cheaper fix than getting a whole new system. Thanks for your help.
