OMEN by HP Desktop PC - 880-106ng

After I selected the option to fully reset my pc, i got a blackscreen while resetting. I waited 2-3 hours and nothing happened. Then I turned my PC off and on but there was still a blackscreen. I already tried spamming esc and the other keys that could get me into bios or something but the blackscreen stays and the only thing that happens is that my mouse and keyboard stop shining for like 3 seconds. I think that the hardware isnt the problem because it worked fine before the reset and also now I can hear the components work. The LEDs of my mouse and keyboard are also shining. I have also just spoken to the supportof microsoft but they couldnt solve my problem

Hi @AbTbT-1

We sincerely thank you for your patience and co-operation during this troubleshooting process.

It sounds like a frustrating situation, and I can understand how challenging it must be to deal with a persistent black screen issue.

Since you've already tried several steps, here are some additional troubleshooting methods that might help:

1. Perform a BIOS Recovery

  • If the system is running in the background but there's no display, the BIOS might be corrupted. Here's how to attempt a recovery:
    1. Turn off the computer and unplug it from the power source.
    2. Press and hold the Windows + B keys, then press the Power button for 2–3 seconds while still holding the keys.
    3. Release the keys and wait for the BIOS recovery process to begin. If successful, the screen should display recovery options.

2. Reseat the RAM

  • A loose or improperly seated memory module can cause display issues. Try reseating the RAM:
    1. Turn off the computer and unplug it.
    2. Open the case and carefully remove the RAM sticks.
    3. Clean the contacts with a lint-free cloth and reinsert them firmly into their slots.
    4. Power on the system and check for display output.

3. Test with a Different Monitor and Cable

  • While you've already tried a different monitor, also test with a different HDMI or VGA cable to rule out cable-related issues.

4. Reset the CMOS Battery

  • Resetting the CMOS battery can clear any corrupted BIOS settings:
    1. Turn off the computer and unplug it.
    2. Open the case and locate the CMOS battery (a small, round silver battery on the motherboard).
    3. Remove the battery for about 5 minutes, then reinsert it.
    4. Power on the system and check for display output.

5. Check for GPU Issues

  • If your system has a dedicated GPU, it might be causing the problem:
    1. Remove the GPU and connect the monitor directly to the motherboard's video output.
    2. If the display works, the GPU might need to be reseated or replaced.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Regards,

@AbTbT-1, Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.
Since your OMEN by HP Desktop 880-106ng went into a black screen after selecting a full reset, it's likely that something went wrong during the reset process, causing the system to be unbootable. Here’s how you can troubleshoot and possibly fix it:

Hard Reset

  1. Turn off your PC by holding the power button for 10-15 seconds.
  2. Unplug all external devices (USBs, external drives, etc.).
  3. Disconnect the power cable and hold the power button for 30 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cable and turn it back on.

Check Display Output

  • If you have a dedicated GPU (e.g., NVIDIA/AMD), try plugging the monitor into the motherboard’s HDMI/DisplayPort instead.
  • If you're using DisplayPort, try switching to HDMI or another port.

Boot into Recovery Mode

  1. Turn on the PC and repeatedly press F11 as soon as it starts.
  2. If the HP Recovery Menu appears, try selecting "Troubleshoot" > "Reset this PC" again.
  3. If that fails, choose "Advanced options" > "Startup Repair".

Try Safe Mode

If you can access the recovery menu (F11):

  1. Select "Advanced options" > "Startup Settings" > "Enable Safe Mode".
  2. Restart and see if it boots into Safe Mode.

Boot from a Windows Installation USB

If the black screen persists:

  1. Create a Windows 10/11 bootable USB using another PC. Download the Windows Media Creation Tool from Microsoft.
  2. Plug the USB into your OMEN desktop.
  3. Turn on the PC and spam ESC or F9 to bring up the boot menu.
  4. Select the USB and try to reinstall Windows.

Check RAM & CMOS Battery

If nothing works:

  1. Turn off the PC, unplug it, and remove and reinsert the RAM sticks.
  2. Try resetting the CMOS battery by removing it for 5 minutes and reinserting it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.

Hello Max3Aj,

Thank you very much for your detailed response and your support. Unfortunately, none of the suggested steps worked. I tried each one carefully, but the black screen persisted.

I was unable to access recovery mode or safe mode, as the screen remained black with no signal. I also removed the CMOS battery and RAM multiple times, leaving them out for over 30 minutes, but this did not resolve the issue either.

Even when inserting a bootable USB stick for Windows installation and repeatedly pressing F9, the screen remained black.

Interestingly, if I leave my PC on, it eventually goes into sleep mode on its own, as if everything is running normally. The LEDs, fans, and other components also seem to be working as expected. Before the reset, the hardware was functioning normally, so I don’t believe this is a hardware issue. The problem only started during the reset process.

Do you have any other suggestions on how I could proceed?

Best regards,

Hi @AbTbT-1

Max3Aj is away for now; however, I'm @Hawks_Eye, and I'll be happy to help you out!

Commendable diagnosis, superb troubleshooting, and splendid description of the issue before posting. Hats off to you on that score. 😊

In this case, we have to reload Windows from scratch.

First, we need to download the Windows image onto a 32GB or 64GB USB flash drive (Flash drive only; memory cards and USB hard drives are not supported; It has to be 32GB or 64B only)

You can download the Windows image through the 'HP Cloud Recovery App', which can be downloaded from the Windows Store.

Refer to Step 2 on the link below:

And follow Step 4 to reload Windows from the newly created USB recovery media.

Hello @Hawks_Eye,

First of all, I would like to sincerely apologize for the late response. I only recently found the time to try out your suggestions and respond accordingly.

Thank you very much for your kind words, your detailed instructions, and the time you took to help me. I truly appreciate your support.

Unfortunately, the issue still persists. Despite carefully following all the steps, including creating a recovery USB with the HP Cloud Recovery Tool and trying to boot from it, the screen remains completely black with no signal. No matter what I try — whether it's using different USB ports, spamming the ESC/F9 keys, or trying with a different monitor — I still get no display output.

It feels as though the system is running in the background (the fans spin, the LEDs light up, and the PC eventually goes into sleep mode), but there is absolutely no video signal at any point.

At this stage, I’m really unsure of what else I can try. If you have any further recommendations, I would be extremely grateful.

Thank you again for your continued support.

Kind regards,
