Hi @Hannibal045

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

The “DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE” crash on your HP Omen PC is typically caused by a misbehaving driver during sleep, startup, or shutdown transitions. Updating chipset, graphics, and storage drivers—and adjusting power settings—can resolve it.

I’m really sorry your new Omen is crashing like this—it’s especially frustrating when it happens right after startup, just as you're getting into your flow. Let’s walk through a few focused steps to restore stability and eliminate that blue screen.

Step-by-step fix for DRIVER_POWER_STATE_FAILURE

1. Update critical drivers from HP

Outdated or incompatible drivers are the most common cause. Start with:

  • Chipset drivers
  • Graphics drivers (Intel + NVIDIA/AMD)
  • Storage controller (Intel Rapid Storage Technology)

Visit: HP Omen Drivers & Downloads
Enter your exact Omen model (e.g., HP Omen 40L GT21-1000iL) and install the latest versions under “Driver-Chipset,” “Driver-Graphics,” and “Driver-Storage.”

2. Adjust Windows power settings

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options.
  • Select High performance or Balanced.
  • Click Change plan settings > Change advanced power settings.
  • Expand PCI Express > Link State Power Management and set to Off.
  • Expand Sleep > Hibernate after and set to Never.

3. Disable Fast Startup

  • Go to Control Panel > Power Options > Choose what the power buttons do.
  • Click Change settings that are currently unavailable.
  • Uncheck Turn on fast startup.
  • Save changes and restart.

4. Check for Windows updates

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update and install all pending updates.
  • This ensures compatibility with newer drivers and resolves known power state bugs.

5. Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics

If the issue persists

  • Boot into Safe Mode and check Device Manager for flagged drivers.
  • Use Event Viewer to inspect crash logs under Windows Logs > System.
  • If you recently installed third-party software or drivers, consider uninstalling or rolling back.

Let me know your exact Omen model and whether the crash happens during startup, sleep, or shutdown—I’ll tailor the next steps precisely.
