I hope someone can help, could not find information anywhere to handle this:
The D drive (Data) disappeared from my PC. I have updated everything on the software side, problem persists. I have added a lot of data to 😧 after last backup.
Tried this information (video lasts 1:46), but cannot go through:
[edit ]
The thing is that when I go to disk management window, I fing Disk 0 and Disk 1. Disk 1 is ok and shows its status as "Basic". "Online" and "Healthy".
Disk 0 shows as "Unknown", "Not Initialised". When I hit right button on it's thumbnail, and go to "Initialise disk", GBT is selected, I hit ok, I get error message "The specified disk is not convertible because the size is less than the minunmum size required for GPT disks".
Again went to right button and chose properties.
General: Location: Bus number 0, target id 0, LUN 0. Should there be something else than 0? Says working properly...
Volumes: Type unknown, status not initialised, partition style not applicable... 0 MB
Driver: 21/06/2006, 10.0.17134.1
Events: 29/06/2018 19.36.58 --> device migrated; device configured (disk.inf); device started (disk)
Obviously something has gone wrong 29/06/2018 19.36.58 and at that time no-one was using the PC so it has been an automatic update.
Further info from the three time stamps:

Ok I downloaded the partitioning software and from its help pages I found this helpful information:
https://www.partitionwizard.com/partitionmagic/disk-unknown-not-initialized.html
Basically, if the Disk Management window identifies the size of the disk, then it is software issue (that @WAWood suggested), if not, it is a hardware issue (that @mdklassen suggested), which can also be connected with some issues related to motherboard.
In my case it seems to be a hardware issue. 😞
Thanks for your help.

Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!
My own experience, especiall with Win10, is that the built-in Microsoft disk utilities tend to be "flaky" -- meaning, some times they work, sometimes they don't. So, I always use third-party partitioning tools because those are reliable.
My suggestion is for you to download and install Minitool Partition Wizard Free Edition from this link: https://www.partitionwizard.com/free-partition-manager.html
When you select the drive with the problems, if there is a menu option for Partition Recovery, then use that -- since if that works, you will get your "D Drive" back.
I use this all the time and find it very reliable.
I am a volunteer and I do not work for, nor represent, HP

What is the listed capacity for the disk? How "small" is it, such that GPT-style formatting is not allowed ?

Not necessarily. Computers like to start at "zero" when counting. Children start counting at "one".

If it is a "plug-and-play" device, it is responding with valid PnP information.

Hmm. I disagree with "obvious".
One can put gasoline into an automobile, drive it home, park it overnight, only to find a flat tire the next morning.
Blame the gasoline? I don't think so.
Restart, and enter BIOS SETUP mode.
It should list the devices (CD? DVD? Disk-Drive-zero? Disk-Drive-one?) that it has detected, and the capacity of each disk-drive.
My guess is that your computer has a 32GB memory-stick, connected directly to the motherboard, and that device has "failed".
Sample picture of an "M.2" memory-card.
that connects to the motherboard.
Power-off the computer. Disconnect the AC power. Remove that card.
Reconnect the AC power, and reboot. Your computer will run without that card, but slightly slower.
If you want, a computer store can help you replace that card.

Smart. I am not a child and zero often means negative or none. This forum is for all HP users not just professionals (there is a separate forum for IS professionals, actually.)

Thanks for clearing, it is a plug and play device, but from user's perspective, a disappearing drive is not working normally.
Thank you for the suggestions and the clear photograph provided. I am going to try the partitioning approach first since I'd rather leave the hardware alone if possible. I still have warranty left so might turn to HP service is need to touch the modules inside the PC unit if the other workaround does not work.
I do not know if it is valuable information, but the motherboard of this PC broke earlier this spring and was replaced at HP. The issues might not be connected at all, but I am surprised about the challenges we have has with a brand new PC already.
Thank you very much.

> I got the disk back by switching off and unplugging everything.
That is good to know.
However, you should immediately make a new backup of everything on "DATA (D:)" to an external disk-drive, to capture everything that you said that you have added to it after your most-recent backup.
Also, Google-search for "download free SPECCY".
Download, install, and run this free program.
Expand its "storage" section.
Expand the section for each drive, and look at the S.M.A.R.T. values.
Reference: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S.M.A.R.T.
to report on the "health" of both the M.2 and the 1 Terabyte disk-drive.
