Sorry to say the problem is BACK!! After a successful boot up three times I figured the problem was fixed. But in two days it came back, I tried to repeat the process and update the BIOS with the recently downloaded one (version F.50). But at boot up that blue screen comes up again - "The CMOS checksum is invalid...  Please check the BIOS setup options to see if they change"  HELP please!

@SMFairfield,

All right, what comes to mind is this: have you already replaced the CMOS Battery?

Reason for me to suggest this, is that things were OK for a couple of times, and then inexplicably returned -hence my suspicion of an almost dead CMOS battery.   If dead or low, it can lead to data corruption in the CMOS memory.  Replace this battery with a new one. Worth a try, at least. Get one from the dollar store.

Sadly, another real possibility is that if the problem persists, it's entirely possible that there could be a hardware issue with your motherboard such as the CMOS chip itself -meaning, you may have to replace your motherboard.

Your HP ENVY Desktop - 795-0050 is fitted with a Berks motherboard (SSID: 844C) with p/n: 941802-601 "Motherboard - Berks, Intel CFL H370, WIN".

For contingency's purposes, a quick check in eBay shows that, if necessary, you can purchase a working replacement Berks motherboard for less than $80: HP Envy 795 Desktop Main Board Motherboard DDR4 H370 Socket LGA 1151 941802-601 | eBay.

Thank you NonSequitur777. Can you advise which type of battery the CMOS takes so I can get it before opening up the desktop?

@SMFairfield,

Just a standard CR2032 3V lithium coin cell battery:

Thanks, will get to it this weekend.

This is VERY intriguing.

1. I successfully updated the BIOS.

2. Message was still popping up. Was advised to change the CMOS battery. I did have two in my reserve. I was able to open up the desktop box and with some difficulty to change the battery.

3. Upon boot-up the blue screen message was STILL popping up.

4. I realized the CR-2032 that I had in reserve was a few years old, and that might be the cause. Ordered fresh battery online. Would take two days to get to me.

5. After two days of the blue screen, before the battery arrived, the error message disappeared! It has now been working fine for four days in a row - I was still holding my breath till today - all seems to be well!

Thank you, Non Sequitur777!

@SMFairfield,

Wonderful news!  I'm glad that your issue has been resolved!

It is sometimes challenging to assist remotely, so to speak, and often it is a matter of trial and error.
