My desktop started an update hours ago and has been stuck on an update at 60% all night. I don't know how to resolve this unless I restart it, which it suggests not to. It is Pavillion MXX31505S6.

Your PC shipped with Windows 8.
Did you update to Windows 10?
You have a PC that was made in 2012.
I would suggest you shut down if the PC is stuck. What else can you do?
This is not the best solution. But I would do this.
Shutdown and restart your PC to see what happens.
The forum credo is to do no harm. You are in a bad situation now.
