When I try to install the Intel RST driver, it says that there is a newer version of the driver installed which is the 8 series chipset driver. I would like to know if they are the same thing.

Hi:

They are not exactly the same.

The chipset driver contains the storage controller driver, as does the Intel RST driver.

But the Intel RST driver has software controls to set up RAID configurations and whatnot.

You don't need the RST software and driver if you are not running two hard drives with the BIOS set to RAID.

So what is happening is the RST driver you are trying to install has an older version of the Intel series 8 storage controller driver than the chipset driver installed.
