Hello, - I updated my Macbook Air to Catalina and now my external HP E223 monitors are black.  I can tell they are working, the act like they are on but the screens are black.  Any one know how to troubleshoot this?

Thanks All

You DO realize this forum is for HP Windows PCs, not Apple equipment, right?

If your MacBook is not working right, you need to contact Apple Computer.

OK ... sorry ... but the lack of any display image indicates either (1) serious hardware failure in the monitors, or (2) display driver issues.

As to (1), about all you can do is hook the monitors individually up to a working Windows PC.  IF they display, then the issue is (2) -- and we can't help you with that problem. If they don't display, that tends to indicate (1) and that would require the monitors be examined by a computer tech to see if they can be repaired.

Try this and hope it helps

  1. Click on the Apple logo, then choose System Preferences.
  2. Click on Security & Privacy, then click Screen Recording from the left menu.
  3. Tick off Enable the Display Driver in the right panel.
