In the event I needed to use the Recovery Partition, would I need to use Windows Update over an over again to bring the Recovery Partition current or is it automatically updated as updates are made available by Microsoft?

Hi:
The HP recovery partition is as it was the day your PC's hard drive was imaged by HP at the factory.
It will never be updated, and there is no way to update it. It is not being updated by Windows Update.
So, if you factory reset the PC, you will have to let Windows Update run and reinstall all of the updates that have come out since your PC was first put into use.
In order to keep your PC up to date, I recommend you use a free system image utility such as Macrium Reflect and periodically back up your PC.
