Microsoft Windows 11

I just received an HP 590-p0054, I thought came with Windows 10. But, it's  running Windows 11. I don't like Windows 11 and would much like to go back to Windows 10. If I have to sacrifice losing data, it wouldn't be a great loss. Can anyone give me some advice on how to accomplish this, if it's possible???? Thanks!!!

Hi:

You won't be able to downgrade to W10 without losing data.

You will need to copy any data currently installed on the drive to a portable had drive, and have any program installation files, and Microsoft Office product keys available.

You can use the HP cloud recovery tool to create a bootable USB recovery drive that will reinstall W10 the drivers and the software that originally came with the PC

Here is an info link for how to use the utility.  You will need a 32 GB USB flash drive for this.

You can get the cloud recovery tool software from the Microsoft Store.

Good Day, Paul. Again, thank you for your input.  But, I am in a bit of a quandary.  First, I am quite dissatisfied with Windows 11.  Second, I thought the pc would come with Windows 10, as noted in the description on EBay.  The description did say. 128GB NVME drive, cleaned and updated.  But, made no reference to what was updated to.  I'm assuming it was to Windows 11.  Anyway, I share my pc with my wife and her pc knowledge is a little limited. But, she handled Windows 10 very well.  I don't think she will be very comfortable with Win 11. Frankly, neither am I. None of my peripherals, mainly, my printer (HP Deskjet F4440) only will print by virtue of a generic Win 11 printer driver. It's also a scanner, but, that function is mute. I have decided to try the HP Cloud Recovery Tool, and see if that works, If not, would going to Microsoft site and creating Windows 10 Recovery Media (USB) and using that could work?? If neither of these work, I feel compelled to contact the seller and request an RMA and search for a more suitable pc. Of course, any feedback from you is greatly appreciated. Sorry for the long scenario. Take care.

You're very welcome.

Yes, you can also use the Microsoft Media creation tool to create a bootable W10 installation flash drive.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

After W10 has completed installing, you can install the drivers and available software from the PC's support page.

I forgot to mention, your suggestion about saving data, was an eye opener. So, since I have a few 2.5 ssd drives I'm not using, I will clone the Win 11 drive to one of them, just in case the other methods don't work, and I can put the original disc back in and God forbid.................return it. I'll keep you posted on my progress. Thanks again Paul!!!

Good Morning, Paul! I had to relay the "good news"!!!  The HP Cloud Recovery Tool worked!!!! I'm back on Windows 10!!!  Even more surprisingly, the desktop wallpaper is exactly like I had it on the other pc!  Thanks so very much for all your help!!  There's one little glitch, tho, the system doesn't seem to want to recognize my printer/scanner.  Although, I have been able to print, only, I believe by way of a generic printer driver in the system.  But, there's no scan option.  HP Smart indicates that there's a driver issue.  On my previous pc, I could scan, save the document, and print at my leisure. I think the app was HP Enhanced Print & Scan (I could be describing it incorrectly). That app is no longer, it seems, not available from HP.  Yes, my printer has some years on it ( HP Deskjet F4440), but, it has worked fine from Win7 to Win 10 (my previous pc).  Any ideas on how I can get it back performing both functions?  Is there a way to get legacy drivers?  Then again, I have the app on my Win 10 M.2 that I removed from the old pc. Anyway, I could extract it from it and place it on the new Win 10 I just recovered?  I realize I have a lot of updating to do, which I'll get to this weekend. As always, your advice is greatly appreciated. Thanks for that wonderful piece of advice geting my system back to where I like. Take Care.

Hi:

Glad you were able to use the HP cloud recovery tool to restore the PC to W10.

Unfortunately, I don't know a thing about HP printers or how to install drivers for them, etc., and suggest that you copy and paste your issue to a new discussion in the HP printer section of the forum.

Hopefully, someone can help you with that or where to find the software you need.

Cheers,

Paul
