HP ProDesk 400 G1 MT G5Q94UT
Microsoft Windows 7 (64-bit)

My system hard drive died.  I can't find the original restore disk.

I searched the cloud restore tool and found the closest match to my product was  "HP  ProDesk 400 G1 PC".  My unit is "MT" not "PC"

I downloaded and installed on new hard drive from thumb drive.  Windows now comes up with generic drivers and all the peripherals are not working.  I went to driver section of HP support to download drivers, but it sits on the "HP is compiling your results. This could take up to 3 minutes, depending on your computer and connection speed. Thank you for your patience." page  and just  spins.

Any idea how to get the drivers?

Thanks,

Bob

Hi, Bob:

The problem is that with a fresh install of W7, you are on IE8, and the support pages are designed to run on IE 11 or Edge.

At least for now, download and install Chrome or Firefox which should allow you to properly access the support page.

I'm assuming you already have the ethernet driver, since you are accessing the internet on there now.

If you need a wifi driver, let me know what model wifi adapter your PC came with.

Wow, you are fast.  Thanks for your help.

I do not have the ethernet driver yet, I'm typing this at work.  If you can find that one, I'd be grateful.

PC has a graphic's card, not on board.  I'll have to check the specs when I get home.

You're very welcome.

No need to take the PC apart to check what model graphics card you have, if you don't have the graphics card specs handy.

All you need to do when you get home, is to post the hardware ID for the standard vga adapter or video controller device showing up in the device manager.

The standard VGA adapter would be listed under the Display Adapters device manager category.

Use this guide for how to find the hardware ID for a device.

Install of drivers on replacement system drive went well.  In case the whole history doesn't show up, I think bad power supply took out my system drive 2 months ago.  Replaced power supply and system drive.

Fast forward 2 months.  I got the new drive configured they way I want, and all is well.

Friday one of my data drives disappears from the system.  I opened the case and reseated all the cables, then the boot drive goes away. getting "Media test failure - check cable". then goes to no  boot drive found.

I swapped cables and Sata channels, no boot.  I unplugged all other drives, no boot.

I can see the drive from Bios utility.  When I boot from my install image on thumb drive, I can CD to the drive and view it's contents.  The drive is not dead, the controller is not dead.  I suppose the image could be corrupted.  It's a brand new drive with a fresh win 7install.

This morning, it is not even showing the "media test failure" in POST, it's going right to no boot drive found.  I turned on full POST in bios, still can't see that error.

Any thoughts?

Is there a way to force the system to boot from SATA1, in case the channel is bad?

Forgot to ad, windows repair utility on USB drive can not see the install.

Hi:

That doesn't sound good to me at all.

I don't know how you can get the PC to boot from port 1.

Try port 2 (which would normally be for the DVD drive).
