HP ENVY Desktop PC TE01-3000i (4M0M1AV)
Microsoft Windows 11

My HP Envy desktop has been randomly shutting down and going to the start up screen. I got a blue screen warning for a Kernel Security Check Failure (0x00000139). I repaired the corrupted system, or so I thought, but it's still happening. A system log check in event viewer shows a lot of repeated DistributedCOM warnings. The latest one says:

The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {2593F8B9-4EAF-457C-B68A-50F6B8EA6B54} and APPID {15C20B67-12E7-4BB6-92BB-7AFF07997402} to the user SKB_HPPC-081122\skbel SID (S-1-5-21-2318436092-3785698863-3720205523-1001) from address LocalHost (Using LRPC) running in the application contain Unavailable SID (Unavailable). This security permission can be modified using the Component Services administrative tool.

I haven't done anything new or added any programs. Is this serious? What do I do. Thanks.

Hi @SKBTexas

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

Thank you for reaching out. We understand your HP ENVY Desktop PC TE01-3000i is randomly restarting and has displayed a Kernel Security Check Failure (0x00000139) blue screen.

Based on the information provided, the DistributedCOM warnings are typically not the cause of unexpected shutdowns or blue screen errors. The primary focus should be the Kernel Security Check Failure, which is commonly related to corrupted system files, device drivers, memory issues, or hardware instability.

Please try the following:

Run HP PC Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Restart the PC and repeatedly tap F2 during startup.
  • Run the System Tests, especially the Memory Test and Extensive System Test.
  • Note any failure IDs reported.

Update the BIOS and chipset drivers for your HP ENVY Desktop PC TE01-3000i from the HP Support website.

  • BIOS and driver updates can help address system stability and restart-related issues.

Check Windows Updates:

  • Go to Settings > Windows Update.
  • Install all available updates, including optional driver updates.

Open Command Prompt as Administrator and run:

  1. DISM /Online /Cleanup-Image /RestoreHealth
  2. sfc /scannow

Restart the PC after both scans complete.

Review Reliability Monitor:

  • Press Windows key, type "Reliability Monitor," and open it.
  • Look for critical events occurring at the time of the shutdowns to identify the driver or component involved.

Since the issue persists after a system repair, I would pay particular attention to the HP Memory Test results and any BIOS updates available for the system. If the diagnostics report any failure codes, please share them here so we can help interpret the results and suggest the next steps.

The DistributedCOM warning you posted is generally informational and is unlikely to be the root cause of the unexpected restarts and Kernel Security Check Failure errors.

Take care, and have an amazing day!

Regards,

Well ... did all this (no problems showed up) except for Updating BIOS and chipset drivers as the Support Page does not support my version 26H2 of Windows 11. The HP Support Assistant that came loaded on my machine says I'm up to date.

But today, I came back to my desktop to find a black screen and messag "Your device has run into a problem and needs to restart. We're just collecting some error info, and then you can restart. 100% complete. Stop code: KERNEL_SECURITY_CHECK_FAILURE (0x139).

So I again ran the DISM (The operation completed successfully.) and scannow (Verification 100% complete. Windows Resource Protection did not find any integrity violations.).

Do I just make sure I back up everything every day and hope the machine doesn't crash completely? It's only 2 years old.
