Hi @Madmad80

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query.

I understand that you’re experiencing issues with your device and are seeing the error code “Hard Disk 3F0 – Boot Device Not Found.” To help resolve this, I’d request you to follow the steps below.

Possible Causes

  • Incorrect BIOS settings.
  • Faulty or improperly connected hard drive.
  • Corrupted boot sector or system files.
  • Defective hard drive or SSD.

Troubleshooting Steps
Perform a Hard Reset:

  • Disconnect all external devices.
  • Shut down the computer.
  • Remove the AC adapter and battery.
  • Hold the power button for 15 seconds.
  • Reconnect the battery and AC adapter, then turn the computer back on.

Check BIOS Settings:

  • Restart the computer and press Esc or F10 repeatedly to access the BIOS Setup.
  • Ensure that the boot order is set correctly, with your hard drive set as the primary boot device.
  • Look for options like Legacy Boot or UEFI Boot and adjust these settings according to your configuration.

Run Hardware Diagnostics:

  • Use the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics (UEFI) tool to test the hard drive.
  • Restart the computer and repeatedly press F2 to enter the HP Diagnostics screen.
  • Select Component Tests and choose Hard Drive. Run the quick and extensive tests for more accurate results.

Reseat the Hard Drive:

  • Power down the laptop and unplug all cables.
  • Remove the back cover of the notebook.
  • Check the hard drive connections, ensuring they're secure.
  • If necessary, remove the hard drive and reinsert it into its slot.

Repair Boot Sector:

  • Boot from a Windows installation media or recovery disk.
  • Access the Command Prompt via Troubleshoot > Advanced Options.
  • Use the command bootrec /fixmbr  followed by bootrec /fixboot  and bootrec /rebuildbcd.

Consider Hard Drive Replacement:

  • If the diagnostics report a failure or if the issue persists, the hard drive might be faulty.
  • Consider replacing the hard drive with a new one and reinstalling the system.
