Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I have lost nearly 12 GB of freespace on c drive in short period. I have not downloaded any programmes.

I have tried to find what has used this but I can find no changes.

Hello
It seems a lot, but it can be normal!
You use your computer, there are files that install automatically, especially if you go on the net.
Some programs, with automatic backups.
If windows update has installed updates, or if they are downloaded, awaiting installation.
You can also have system restore points.
Files in the trash, if not yet emptied, it still takes up space.

Hi. Thanks for your reply. I'm pretty good at clearing junk and deleted items. I also try and move stuff to the D drive.

It just seems that I lost this free space quickly and I can't see why.

@PaulB54

As @Prométhée already told you, Windows Update will take up more and more room on your drive.  MS puts out patches every week and Windows Update installs them without your knowledge or approval, and there is no real way to prevent that.  Over time, these can easily take up several GB of disk space.

Here are some things you can do to recover some of the disk space:

http://winaero.com/blog/how-to-clean-up-winsxs-folder-in-windows-10/

Also, the community Win10 Forums has the following suggestions:
https://www.tenforums.com/tutorials/83441-free-up-drive-space-windows-10-a.html

In addition, I have found the utility Cleanmgr+ to have LOTS of options for removing Windows junk, including log files. I use it practically every day. You can get it from here:
https://www.mirinsoft.com/cleanmgrplus

Also, there is a freeware app known as Wise Disk Cleaner. I use it every day to get rid of junk files: https://www.wisecleaner.com/wise-disk-cleaner.html

Sorry, but it seems useless to install a multitude of programs, if one is on the lookout for a little space.
We can use microsoft tools, with software at the limit, CCleaner for example, is more than enough for that.
check as mentioned, if you do not have several points of restoration
@PaulB54  If you are looking to know where its exactly, the GB, disappeared, the answer given, may not be enough, but without having the computer in hand, and again, it is difficult to say exactly, what happened!
There two possible tracks the microsoft majs, as I had said, and the system savages

@PaulB54

I guess I need to be CLEAR about what I recommended to you ...

First of all, I did not recommend installing a "multitude" of programs. Of the list I provided, only ONE (Wise Disk Cleaner) has to be installed to run, and it only takes 4MB of disk storage -- a very TINY amount in return for the amount of disk it saves.  The CleanMgr+ app I recommended can be run from the download package without requiring installation, and it only takes up about 1.5MB of disk space -- again a very TINY amount for the disk space it saves.

Second, my other recommendations include disk cleanup routines -- which are provided by Microsoft and are already installed on your PC. They take up no additional space. It's just that CleanMgr+ works much the same as Disk Cleanup (the MS tool) but provides more options for you.

I use these on a regular basis and have seen them clean several GB of disk space on a single day after a set of windows updates.

But ... it's your PC; it's your choice what to do about cleaning up the disk space.
