Hi @Bernhard09,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your PC is frequently freezing, it can be quite frustrating. Here are several steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve the issue:

1. Check for Overheating

  • Ensure that your PC isn't overheating. Dust buildup can block vents and cause overheating.
  • Clean out any dust from fans and vents using compressed air.

2. Update Drivers

  • Outdated or corrupted drivers can cause freezing:
    1. Open Device Manager (right-click the Start menu).
    2. Check for any devices with a yellow exclamation mark and update those drivers.
    3. Consider updating your graphics and chipset drivers from the manufacturer’s website.

3. Run Windows Update

  • Make sure your operating system is fully updated:
    1. Go to Settings > Update & Security > Windows Update.
    2. Install any available updates.

4. Check for Malware

  • Malware can cause performance issues:
    • Run a full system scan using Windows Defender or another reputable antivirus software.

5. Check Disk Health

  • A failing hard drive can lead to freezing:
    1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    2. Type chkdsk /f /r and press Enter. Follow the prompts to schedule a check on the next restart.

6. Manage Startup Programs

  • Too many startup programs can slow down your PC:
    1. Press Ctrl + Shift + Esc to open Task Manager.
    2. Go to the Startup tab and disable unnecessary programs.

7. Check for Resource Usage

  • Monitor resource usage to identify what might be causing the freeze:
    1. Open Task Manager and check the Processes tab.
    2. Look for any processes using an unusually high amount of CPU or memory.

8. Run System File Checker

  • Corrupted system files can lead to instability:
    1. Open Command Prompt as an administrator.
    2. Type sfc /scannow and press Enter. Let it complete and follow any instructions.

9. Perform a Clean Boot

  • A clean boot can help determine if background services are causing issues:
    1. Type msconfig in the Start menu and press Enter.
    2. In the System Configuration window, go to the Services tab, check Hide all Microsoft services, then click Disable all.
    3. Go to the Startup tab and click Open Task Manager. Disable all startup items.
    4. Restart your PC and see if the freezing persists.

10. Check Hardware

  • RAM Issues: Use the Windows Memory Diagnostic tool to check for memory issues.
  • Hard Drive Health: Consider using tools like CrystalDiskInfo to check the health of your drive.

11. Reinstall Windows

  • If all else fails and the problem persists, consider backing up your data and performing a clean installation of Windows.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
