GetSMART.exe Issues

My Windows10 OS comes with Windows Defender. This security progam keeps blocking changes to my computer's memory and controlled files by the program EDT_GetSMART.exe

I was not sure at first if this was a virus or the result of one, and after contacting Microsoft, they told me it is an HP origin program. I was wondering what this program is and whether or not it is imporatnt? If it is imporatnt or useful, how can I get my computer to stop blocking it?

I did some researching on the program and it looks like the program is not a virus but a lot of people said it was pointless and to get rid of it. So I recommend to uninstall it.

2. Exactly what is the text of the "blocking" message?

3. It is not a virus.  Quote:

ETD_GetSMART.exe is usually located in the

'C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Support Framework\Resources\HPActiveHealth\Executable Agent Data\_Shared\DiskCheck\'

folder.

4. It is a "useful" part of the HP software that monitors the "health" of your computer.

5. Windows Defender can be configured to "trust" that program, i.e., to "unblock" it.

Thank you! I was able to add this program as trusted with the full folder information you gave

(C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\HP Support Framework\Resources\HPActiveHealth\Executable Agent Data\_Shared\DiskCheck\)

I was not sure where it was located before so this was extremely useful. Hopefully now the error messages will stop.

General hint:

Open a command-line prompt.

Type: CD \

and press ENTER.

Type: DIR%EDT_GetSMART.exe%/S%/A

but you must replace each '%' by a "blank", and press ENTER,

to get a list of folders that contain that named file.

It is very very difficult today to beleive even any reputed companies including Google, Microsoft & Others who play with our datas for their business as well as third party business who pay them handsomely. 

I think HP needs to pay some amount to Microsoft to settle these kind of Issues.

Hmmm...I followed your suggestion and got an error message: "Volume in C drive has no label. Volume serial number is ##### (not actual number) File not found"

Praamod, I agree. I don't know why this program is not recongized. When I contacted Microsoft, the support team told me that it is really an HP program, but they weren't sure what it was for and told me to contact HP for further help. I tried to add the program as an exception, as another responder sugested above. The error messages stopped for a day, and now have since started up again. *sigh*

Spelling counts:

"ee-tee-dee" or "ee-dee-tee"

and typos can be a killer.

Once again, spelling counts.  Be sure that the exception you added has the correct spelling.
