HP 540 Pavilion stopped loading windows. comes up with blue screen asking for keypboard layout.

HP Pavilion desktop now only displays "choose your keyboard layout" screen.  Ran computer checkup on recovery manager and  that said everything is fine.  Did file backup.  Also cloned new SSD 2T drive from old 1T HDD.  Ran recovery on old HDD and still nothing, except loss of files on that drive.  Put new SSD into computer and still get the blue screen asking for keyboard.  Obviously something went south with windows booting but I have no idea what to do next and I am not a computer genius.  Can anyone help here?  Sure appreciate it.

Your PC shipped with W10 Home 64 bit.

I'm sorry, can't get a handle on exactly what happened.

Running the HP Recovery Manager will set the PC back to the factory configuration. This will reinstall the factory OS image and probably remove everything or file pointers to previously contained data on the system disk.

There may be some recoverable stuff if you use a professional data recovery service. Recovering data depends on where the data was stored on the previous OS installation. The sectors having the previous OS installation data you would like to recover may have been over written by the new OS installation.

There are some software data recovery tools available online. I don't know if you will have much success in your situation. Search for "software data recovery tools".

Can you proceed installing the HP W10 factory image by selecting the keyboard setup? If yes, you will have a clean HP factory OS image installed on the system disk.

Run HP Diagnostics if you can't proceed from the keyboard layout screen. Start the PC. Repeatedly tap "ESC".

Select "F2". Run system tests. Run component tests.

 I did run the hp recovery manager and I still get the blue screen asking me for keyboard language and then can go into troubleshooting. I have a backup of the files I don't want to lose so I'm not too worried about losing critical data.  I have used the F2key and/or at least thru the Hp diagnostics that comes up and everything says its ok.  No hardware issues, etc.  I ran the two + hour check of all the systems and they all came up clean.  I made a clone of the old drive and installed that and I get the same response, blue screen.  I am going to try and get a W10 boot disk/media and try and boot off that.  The Hp software that comes up after I put in the keyboard language provides no hint of anything being wrong, no error codes, nothing. I appreciate your input below but still don't know why this happened.  The closest thing is I installed some cyberlink software just a couple of days before the BSOD showed up, but I can't fathom any relationship.

Thanks for the additional information.

Cloning a corrupted system disk moves the problem from one disk to a different disk. It sounds like the hardware is okay.

If data backup is not a problem then download W10 at this Link.

The product key for your PC is in the BIOS. You don't need this to install W10 64 bit Home version.

Select "I don't have a product key" when installing Windows 10 64 bit Home version. Windows should activate after the installation has completed and you are connected to the internet.

I made a W10 boot disk and put it on a SD card and connected to PC to see if system would boot. No luck.  Still goes directly to Keyboard language screen.  Bios/UEFI shows order of boot being windows boot manager, USB floppy/cd, and USB hard drive so I would think the PC would look at the USB SD card and try and boot from there.  I still have no idea where to go from here.  Thanks for your help so far though.

Here's what I ended up doing. I was at the dos prompt and in the USB drive that had the boot files in it. I ran setup.exe and W10 loaded and is running at the moment.  I lost a lost of prior data (that i have backed up) either during this install of W10 or previously when I tried to do a recovery on the drive and it didn't take.  As it stands not I think I'm back in business.  Thanks for your assistance.
