I have installed PCIe USB 3 card Renesas NEC uPD720201 in my HP 8200E SFF PC, the card was detected immediately by windows 10 pro and it installed the driver as eXtensible Host controller 1.0 Microsoft, it was working fine, but only after 2-3 weeks windows stopped this device with error message code 43 then windows could not start the device with error message code 10, I was expecting driver issue as the supplied driver with the card was for windows 7, the manufacturer did not reply to my enquiry looking for an updated driver, my PC BIOS is dated to 06/09/2011 version J01 v02.06, will this issue can be solved by updating the BIOS and what is the suitable version?
Any help is very much appreciated, thank you very much.

Extremely doubtful -- problems with Windows software only RARELY can be fixed by a BIOS update.
Plus, any problem with installing a BIOS update can turn your computer into a "brick". Sigh.
Instead, uninstall the device-driver software.
Shut down.
Remove the hardware.
Restart.
Shutdown.
Reconnect the hardware.
Restart -- Windows should detect the new hardware, and should load a device-driver.
Does it now work?

Hi,
Thank you very much for the response, I will not then consider updating the BIOS.
For the other steps I have followed before the card become automatically detected and installed and work but after unspecified time the same issue occurs again, I could not find driver for windows 10 for this make though they advertised the card as compatible with windows 10 and that it does not require driver, but it seems that the driver become corrupted after short time, I am not sure if it require some registry modification and how?
Any more help will be very much appreciated.

I would interpret their statement as "if you install Windows 10, you have already installed the device-driver for this card".
Have you enabled "System Restore" on your computer?
If so, create a checkpoint when the card is working.
Then, if it stops working, use System Restore to reload this checkpoint (or any later automatically-taken checkpoint), to "undo" whatever problem that may arise.

Hi,
Thank you for the updated information, yes I am also thinking of the restore point, I have not tried it yet but will do I can install the card again and create restore point hoping this will restore thr driver but if the issue returns I have to keep on using the restore point again and again, on this is it considered as driver issue or incompatibility with windows 10 and why the driver works for 2-3 weeks then become corrupted, can microsoft help in this issue?
Thank you very much.

Enabling System Restore is a good thing.
For example, Windows Update creates a checkpoint before starting any update.
So, by enabling, you will have a collection of checkpoints to choose from, if/when you need to use them.
I have no thoughts on why the problem resurfaces.
This is a user-to-user forum for HP computers, not an official contact path to MIcrosoft nor to HP.

Hi,
thank you for the updated information.
The problem is not occuring for the first time, it was happened before and solved by uninstalling the driver, then the card, rebooting, then reinstalling the card, windows again detects the card and installed the driver, but again the same problem occured after 2-3 weeks, so I thought something is wrong causing the driver become corrupted.
I have not tried system restore yet to see if this will restore thr driver or not as the problem is expected to happen again, so I am thinking of something else that is causing the problem, may be other than updating the BIOS, I will be very pleased if you have further information to solve the problem.

> I have not tried system restore yet to see if this will restore the driver or not as the problem is expected to happen again,
Please do try using System Restore to enable checkpoints, and then create a "baseline" checkpoint.
Then, as you use Windows, it will occasionally take its own checkpoints.
The whole point of having those checkpoints is to automatically restore your system, including device-drivers.
> I am thinking of something else that is causing the problem.
Well, something is causing your problem, and the RAM / motherboard / disk-drive are the "usual suspects".
When you do experience the problem, what symptoms do you observe, and what error-messages do you get?

Hi,
Thank you very much for the updated support.
The first symptom I noted is the appearance of error message code 43 that windows cannot start this device and that this device has reported problem, I rebooted the PC the error message changed to code 10 this time, I understand that this error code relate to driver issue, but why it did not happens only after 2 weeks from using the device?
I could not see any issue with the motherboard the ram is 12 Gb no sign of problem.
I have already uninstalled the card and the driver so sytem restore will not help, if I reinstall the card windows will detects again so I need to wait until this issue happens again to try system restore and see the outcome.

> I could not see any issue with the motherboard the ram is 12 Gb no sign of problem.
What software did you use to "test" the motherboard and the RAM?
HP computers have built-in software to test the hardware -- launch the software as soon as you power-on the computer.
For example, see: www.memtest.org for software that tests the RAM, and, of course, parts of the CPU.
> I have already uninstalled the card and the driver so system restore will not help.
Use System Restore to take a "checkpoint" of your computer, at this point.
> if I reinstall the card windows will detects again ...
After the hardware and the software is reinstalled, and the device is working, use System Restore to take another "checkpoint".
If/when the problem occurs, use System Restore to reload from this checkpoint, to restore your computer to a "working" condition.
> I need to wait until this issue happens again to try system restore and see the outcome.
Correct. Once you have a "checkpoint" taken when it was working, you can "restore" from this checkpoint.
