Hi @deacon572647,

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

If your HP All-in-One 23.8" computer is displaying a "keyboard error" upon startup, it indicates that the computer is having trouble recognizing the connected keyboard. Here are some steps you can take to troubleshoot and resolve this issue.

Check Keyboard Connection:

  • Ensure the keyboard is properly connected. For a wired keyboard, make sure it's securely plugged into the correct USB port. For a wireless keyboard, ensure the wireless receiver is correctly inserted into the USB port and the keyboard has fresh batteries.

Try a Different Keyboard:

  • Connect a different keyboard to see if the issue persists. This will help determine if the problem lies with the keyboard itself or the computer's ports.

Check for Physical Damage:

  • Inspect the keyboard and connection ports for any visible damage, such as bent pins or debris inside the port.

Reset the Computer:

  • Perform a power reset to clear any temporary errors. Disconnect all peripherals, unplug the power cable, press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds, then reconnect the power cable and peripherals and turn on the computer.

Access BIOS Setup:

  • If the keyboard works intermittently and you're able to press keys during startup (usually F10, F12, Esc, or Del), enter the BIOS setup. If the BIOS recognizes the keyboard, it suggests a software or driver issue within Windows.

Boot into Safe Mode:

  • If the computer progresses to a point where you see the Windows logo, try booting into Safe Mode by restarting the computer and pressing F8 (or Shift + F8 for some systems) to enter the boot options and select Safe Mode.

Update Drivers:

  • If you can access the computer, ensure all drivers are up to date, especially chipset and USB drivers, as they might resolve hardware recognition issues.

By following these steps, you can determine if the issue is related to the hardware or software and take appropriate action to resolve it.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
