Why does the Cloud Recovery Tool download a Windows 10 image which will be no longer supported in a few days?  Version 1803 support ends 5/11/21… endless updates right after a fresh install. You can select a newer Windows 10 version by picking a newer model, but that image is also outdated… version 2004. Windows 21H1 will be released soon, why does HP issue outdated Windows versions using it’s cloud recovery tool?  Yeah sure you can get it from Microsoft, but why can’t you get current versions from HP?

While I do not work for HP and not "in the know" on that topic, the Recovery Image that used to come on the hard drive of HP products had the version of Windows that came with the PC when it was produced.  Since you are reporting information that seems to still support that, it would seem to be the case now, too.

HP is not the Windows source, per se and just gives the user a version that would restore the product to the way it was from the factory.  That is the way is was in the past, so I assume that is still the logic for the Cloud Recovery Tool.

The user can then use Microsoft tools to update the Windows 10 version to the most current available, if that is what the user desires.

I would accept that as a solution, but my original image (my computer was built 12/16) was Windows 1603 or 1607 and HP has been updating the versions as time went on until recently. I guess it really doesn’t matter other than the HP images seem slightly different from Microsoft images… it wouldn’t be good to install such an older version of Windows 10 as it would need to be updated right away. Since there a bunch of new Spectre vulnerabilities recently discovered, it will be interesting if new BIOS’s will be released with new microcodes.

In regards to the BIOS updates and new microcodes - the Business class machines do have those kind of updates, sometimes.  I think the Z 840 WorkStation  PC's are classified as a Business class machine, so it might happen.

You might want to message the Business Class support site for software solutions such as you are describing.

They operate somewhat differently for business support vs Home products.
