Hi @kokowiw
Welcome to the HP support community.
I understand you're experiencing an issue with your HP device, and I apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. I'm here to help you today.
I'll walk you through the process, including which OS version is appropriate for your HP ENVY x2 and how to set everything up.2
1. Determine the Correct Version of Windows 11 (ARM
- Windows 11 (business editions), version 24H2 - ARM
- Windows HLK for Windows 11, version 24H2 - ARM: This is the Hardware Lab Kit used for testing hardware compatibility with Windows.
- Windows ADK and WDK: These are tools for developers to build, test, and deploy Windows drivers and applications. These are not the OS versions.
- Windows SDK: This is for developers who want to build applications for Windows 11. This is not necessary for your needs.
2. Prepare for Installation (Backup & Reset)
- Backup Data: Use an external drive or cloud storage to back up files you don't want to lose.
- Create a Windows 11 ARM USB Installation Drive:
- Download the Windows 11 (business editions), version 24H2 - ARM image from the Microsoft website or from your product list.
- Create a bootable USB installation drive using Rufus or the Windows Media Creation Tool.
- If using Rufus, ensure you select GPT partition scheme and UEFI as the target system, since most modern systems (especially ARM devices) use UEFI for booting.
3. Clean Installation of Windows 11 (ARM)
Boot from USB:
- Insert the USB drive you created with the Windows 11 installation media into the HP ENVY x2.
- Power on the laptop and press the appropriate key to enter the Boot Menu or BIOS/UEFI settings (this is typically F9, F10, or ESC depending on your device).
- Choose to boot from the USB drive.
Install Windows 11:
- Once booted into the Windows installation screen, select your language and region preferences.
- Select Install Now.
- Choose the ARM version of Windows 11 you want to install.
- Follow the prompts and select the option to Custom Install when asked where to install the operating system.
- Choose the primary drive (usually labeled Drive 0), and delete the existing partitions to completely wipe the current OS. Then create a new partition to install Windows 11.
- Proceed with the installation and follow the prompts to complete the setup.
Complete Setup:
- After installation, the system will reboot. You’ll be asked to configure your region, language, and other preferences.
- Sign in with your Microsoft account or create a local account.
4. Set Windows 11 to Boot When Using "Reset PC"
- Enable the Reset PC Option for Windows 11 (24H2 - ARM):
- After the installation is complete, you’ll want to make sure that the Reset PC feature works properly. Windows will automatically use the current version of Windows installed for resetting.
- To verify this, go to Settings > System > Recovery.
- Under the Reset this PC section, select Get started.
- Choose the Remove everything option if you wish to fully reset the device in the future.
- After performing a reset, it should reinstall the same version of Windows 11 (24H2 - ARM) as the OS you just installed.
5. Update Drivers and Install Additional Software
- Once Windows 11 is installed and running, make sure to download and install any necessary drivers for your HP ENVY x2. These can typically be found on the HP Support website for your specific model.
- For ARM devices, ensure that all drivers are ARM-compatible. Sometimes, Windows Update will automatically install the most appropriate drivers.
I hope this helps! Keep me posted.
