I think that we have at this moment come to a crossroads where the traffic signals are at amber.
I will take a break but will continue to come back and follow progress
Many thanks to yourself and Paul for your help.
Regards
Robert

Good Evening Promethee, and Forum friends
Being always a positive thinker I have come to the conclusion that my problem 'may lie with its HDD'
I say that because when I run HP PC Hardware Diagnostic UEF1 (the only part of this HP computer that makes any sense) the findings are not good ones.
Hard Drive Check Results:
Quick Check ; Smart Check Passed
Extensive Check; DST Not available
This tells me all is not well and needs further investigation, - so tomorrow I have a company who pay home visits booked to call and check my problem, so I will report back to you with the results.
I do recall that shortly after I purchased this HP problems arose, like the ones at present are doing with passwords, and the seller took the computer back for repair, at the time I could not believe the word 'repair' as it was brand new, anyway the computer came back a few days later 'repaired' and was only used for a very short time before being put back into its box and stored with my other computer.
Lets see what tomorrow brings.
Kind regards
Robert

The problem was in the HDD as it was not being recognised which is so disappointing.
A new HDD had to be fitted which was Crucial BX500 - 240GB
The one fitted to the computer was 2.0TB which has I believe was faulty from the point of manufacture.
I had problems the first few days after purchase then it was repaired/returned and then it was stored for a couple of years with other electrical goods due to my ill health and moving.
I thank you for your help plus Paul in helping with this problem which is now resolved.
Kind regards
Robert
