HP Pavilion Desktop - 510-p136

Hi there,

I have Pavilion 510-p136 that failed to boot with a CPU fan error. After looking at the problem it seems the power supply resets every time the fans start to spin and halts the boot. I replaced the power supply and now the system boots up but ends up in a preparing system recovery screen that runs for ever. I broke in to the boot process and ran diagnostics and I see that the HDD is failing short DST check. My intention was to just order a new HDD and download a recovery image and run through the process. Before ordering the drive I took a look for the recovery image but don't find anything even referenced. Machine was Windows 11 I think it shipped originally with Windows 10. Can someone point me to the right place for obtaining Windows. My intention is to add a primary drive and copy data off the dying drive if I can access it.

Thanks

Hi:

Unfortunately, there is no recovery image available for your PC.

You can reinstall W11 for free but since your PC is not supported for W11, use my workaround to bypass the W11 hardware requirements so you can reinstall W11.

You will have to use the Rufus v3.18-created installation media to perform a clean install.

https://h30434.www3.hp.com/t5/Notebook-Hardware-and-Upgrade-Questions/Issues-upgrading-to-windows-11...

When you get to the screen that asks what version of W11 do you want to install, select W11 Home.

If you are asked to enter a product key, select the 'I don't have a product key' option.

If you want to clean install W10 for free, you can make a bootable USB installation flash drive with the media creation tool from the link below.

You will not be asked to select the version of W10 you want to install, nor will you be asked to enter a product key, since W10 will find that info from the product key in your PC's BIOS.

Download Windows 10 (microsoft.com)

If you want the original HP factory image the only place I know of where you can buy that would be from this vendor:

Thanks for the information. I will probably just make a bootable USB stick for W10 and go that root. I appreciate the links etc. Hopefully this should be a straight forward job.
