I received a HP Support notification to install the following:
tfs windows 10 re recovery manager installer-TDC
this component is only for Windows 10
sp74124 2.00 1.82MB
I don't know what this install is suppose to do and why I need to install this. I purchased this HP desktop with Windows 10 64bit already installed. Before installing this download I'd like to know why I need it and what it is for. Any ideas why this was sent out?
thanks

I wouldn't worry about it then -- Windows Update is set to automatic right out of the box. Microsoft gives you important updates directly. Third-party assistant-type programs are just there to suck up system resources for little, if any, benefit in exchange.

Welcome huxg to your forum!:
by the time one acquires a computer at a "brick & mortar" or even online depending on the when it's delivered until you get it the OS & drivers are out of date that's it's recommended that you get on line to update
sometimes it's add new features, improve performance or apply "digital pest spray"to eradicate bugs & other issues
hopefully this enlighens & behooves you

kingtopcat,
Thanks for your response however I always use HP Support Assistant and check with it for upgrades, performance imporvements and service put out by HP for my HP desktop that came with Windows 10 already installed. So, anything new such as drivers, enahancements , diagnostics etc I always install when notified by HP since my pc came with HP Support Assistance. When those suggested installs are sent to me they come with a description so to speak and I know what they are for. This particular notification came with no information or description so I'm wondering why it needs to be installed.
thanks

Welcome back huxg: When I go to www.microsoft.com I notice a link located near the bottom of the update page that gives you information on the various updates issued

Reference: ftp://ftp.hp.com/pub/softpaq/sp74001-74500/sp74124.html
gives a description of the 'SoftPaq' #74124.
Fairly "technical" language.
