I have a Z2 Mini G9 that has been a great computer until this last week. The CPU fan has been acting very strange. I started hearing it more and more and now the pc has periods where it will run the CPU fan 100% at 4,000 RPM at random.
Sometime it will run like this for one or two minutes, other times for ten or more mintues. It will stop for 30 seconds then come right back on full speed. It seems to be more likely to do it after putting it to sleep for the night and waking it up the next day. I did a hard shutdown and tried "reset" the pc and it seemed to be fine for an afternoon. Next morning however when I woke it up it was back to acting randomly with the fan.
I used the HP Performance Advisor and it is not showing the CPU overheating, 39C currently. I watch the task manger and the CPU is never loaded up and heavily working however the fan will be running full speed. It does seem like some piece of soaftware could be spiking the CPU up quickly causing the fan to trigger. I am not sure becasue I am not seeing this type of behavior in the task manger.
Made sure BIOS was updated, passed a fan speed test. Open the computer and blew it out, it still looked brand new inside, no dirt or dust.
Anybody have any ideas as to why it just started randomly doing this the last few days? Been using the PC daily since bought brand new 6 months ago.

I have the same issue. It is driving me crazy for a while now.
It's the GPU (A2000) fan constantly spinning up to maximum speed for no reason at all.
Did all the steps you specified below but without any result.
I contacted HP already about this but they had no idea what I was talking about.
Also very difficult to explain this issue since it is not always acting like this.

Just an update on my situation:
Graphics card all of a sudden died. Card was replaced.
The FAN issue was resolved since then for a few weeks, today it started again.
I am now back in contact with HP support.
Did you have any other solution for this issue?
Best regards

Unfortunately the problem here also persists.
But what is even worse is that HP Support stopped answering to my emails.
When calling they suddenly act like they cannot hear me anymore on the phone and they hang up.
Such a shame that a "pro" product is delivered with such terrible quality and even worse level of support.
Issue is caused - I think - by the usage of two graphics cards. When you remove the RTX A2000 card the issue is gone.
