ON MY DESTOP ALL IN ONE HP COMPUTER - All of a sudden, I get message that says Boot Device Not Found Please install an operating system Hard Disk (3F0).  Again, this is on a DESKTOP COMPUTER and NOT on a notebook or laptop computer. I turn off the computer, and the message is the first thing that comes up when I turn the computer back on. I am unable to go to the Control Panel nor anywhere else on my computer because this message comes up first and only when I restart up my computer.

What can I do here?

Hi @Angelo0916

Welcome to the HP Support Community! We're here to help you get back up and running.

I understand the situation you are facing with your HP All‑in‑One desktop showing the “Boot Device Not Found – Hard Disk (3F0)” message immediately at startup.

Let’s go through the recommended steps to address this:

Step 1: Perform a Hard Reset

  1. Power off the computer completely.
  2. Disconnect the power cable and any external devices (USB drives, printers, etc.).
  3. Press and hold the power button for about 15 seconds.
  4. Reconnect the power cable and turn the computer back on.

Step 2: Run HP Hardware Diagnostics

  1. Turn on the computer and immediately press the F2 key repeatedly until the HP PC Hardware Diagnostics menu opens.
  2. Select System TestsQuick Test.
  3. If no issues are found, run the Extensive Test to check the hard drive thoroughly.
  4. Follow the on‑screen instructions if any errors are reported.

Step 3: Verify BIOS Settings

  1. Restart the computer and press the F10 key repeatedly to enter BIOS Setup.
  2. In BIOS, confirm that the hard drive is detected under Storage.
  3. Ensure the boot order lists the hard drive first.
  4. Save changes and exit.

Step 4: Update BIOS (if accessible) If the system allows, update the BIOS to the latest version using HP’s official support site. This can improve hardware detection.

Step 5: Use HP App – Diagnose & Fix If Windows loads after adjustments, open the HP App and run Diagnose & Fix to automatically check and repair startup issues.

Step 6: System Recovery If diagnostics confirm the hard drive is healthy but the operating system is missing or corrupted, use HP’s Cloud Recovery Tool or recovery media to reinstall Windows. This will restore the system software.

For complete guidance, please refer to HP’s official support article here:
HP PCs - Hard disk 3F0 boot device not found error | HP® Support

These steps are structured to help you restore functionality step by step. If the hard drive is not detected in BIOS or fails diagnostics, recovery media will be required to reinstall the operating system.

Take care, and have an amazing day!
