Hi @Andy196870,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for sharing the image and details. I understand how frustrating this can be.

The message shown indicates a scanner initialization error, which is often caused by a temporary firmware or power-related issue. Let’s start with a basic hard reset, which resolves this in many cases.

Please follow these steps carefully:

  1. Turn the printer ON if it is not already.
  2. Disconnect the power cable from the rear of the printer.
  3. Unplug the power cable from the wall outlet as well.
  4. Wait for at least 60 seconds (this step is important to fully discharge residual power).
  5. Plug the power cable directly into a wall outlet (avoid surge protectors or extension cords).
  6. Reconnect the power cable to the printer.
  7. Turn the printer back ON if it does not power on automatically.

Once the printer is back on, check if the Scanner Problem message clears and try a copy or scan.

If the issue persists:

  • Lift the scanner lid and make sure there is no obstruction and that the scanner glass and lid move freely.
  • If available for your model, ensure the printer firmware is up to date.
  • Unfortunately, if the error continues even after a hard reset, it usually indicates a hardware failure of the scanner assembly, and scanning/copying may not function without service.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!
