I am getting a warning on my computer saying I have a virus. It gives me a phone number to call but I didn't trust the person who answered could you send me another phone number direct from HP. Thank you cressie dobbins

That was a wise decision. Your computer does NOT have a computer-virus.
Instead, you loaded a "scare-ware" web-page into your web-browser, and your web-browser is displaying that message.
The object of the web-page is to get you to telephone the scammer, and for you to (naively) allow them to take full control of your computer, and then to offer a "service contract" (usually about $100) for them to "fix" your computer.
If you shutdown & reboot your computer, that web-page should no longer be loaded, and your computer should be fine.
