The "HP Sure Start detected corruption in the Intel Management Engine (IME) firmware" message indicates that HP's BIOS security system has detected an issue with the Intel Management Engine firmware, which is crucial for system management, security, and remote administration.
Step 1: Try Recovery:
You should first select "Continue" as prompted. This allows HP Sure Start to attempt a recovery by restoring a known good copy of the Intel ME firmware.
Step 2: If the Message Reappears:
However, if it is the case that the issue persists after rebooting, follow these steps:
Step 3: Perform a Hard Reset:
- Power off your laptop.
- Disconnect all external devices, including USB drives and docking stations.
- Unplug the AC adapter and, if possible, remove the battery (if accessible).
- Press and hold the power button for 30 seconds to drain residual power.
- Reconnect power and turn the system back on.
Step 4: Update the BIOS and Intel ME Firmware:
Since the EliteBook x360 830 G6 is a business-class laptop, it has enterprise-grade firmware security. To update the BIOS and Intel ME firmware:
- Go to HP’s official support page.
- Download the latest BIOS update package (which often includes an Intel ME firmware update).
- Run the BIOS update from Windows or create a BIOS update USB drive using HP's BIOS update utility.
- Restart and enter the HP BIOS (F10 at startup) → Navigate to Update System BIOS and install the update.
Step 5: Perform an HP BIOS Recovery:
If updating the BIOS does not fix the issue, try a BIOS Recovery:
- Power off the laptop.
- Press and hold Win + B (or Ctrl + B on some models).
- While holding the keys, press the power button for a few seconds until the laptop starts.
- Release the keys, and the BIOS recovery should start.
Step 6: Reset the Embedded Controller (EC):
This step helps reset internal firmware components:
- Power off the laptop.
- Press and hold both the Power button and the Mute (F6) key for 20 seconds.
- Release and turn the laptop back on.
Step 7: If the Issue Persists: Contact HP Support:
If the corruption message continues, it may indicate a deeper firmware or hardware-level failure. Given that EliteBooks have advanced security, an HP-certified repair or motherboard replacement may be required.
