HP 750-514
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

I downloaded HP Support Assistant from HP.com to my HP 750-514 Windows 10 desktop to update system/software components as I hadn't done previously.

When I ran the first update -- updating the system's BIOS -- upon restart, the system would not boot into Windows -- and I get an error message (in a blue box of text inside a black screen) indicating there's no Operating System present.

As I recall, the BIOS update process suggested I create a partition on my hard drive.  So as far as I know, I proceeded to allow the HP Support Assistant to create the partition.

An F2 hardware diagnostic results in my hard drive "passing" that test (the memory test passed as well).

Before experiencing this "stop in your tracks" problem, I noticed my CD/DVD-RW drive was working intermittently.

The HP 750-14 desktop has a 128GB SSD C: drive and a 2nd (D:) hard drive of 1TB.

How can I identify the root cause and solve the problem(s)?

I'd like to be able to replace the CD/DVD-RW drive and upgrade and migrate to a larger SSD C: drive.

thanks very much.

Greetings,

Welcome to the forum.

I am not a HP employee.

It appears the BIOS update was successful since you can POST and run HP hardware diagnostics at system startup.

A problematic CD/DVD drive should not cause a "No operating system error" at startup.

The HP HDD diagnostics passed.

Somehow it appears the bootloader may be corrupted.

Try the tips at this (Link) to fix the bootloader. Best to create Windows 10 installation media to troubleshoot startup problems (Link).

Are you in warranty? Contact HP Support if you are in warranty (Link).

Regards
