Hi @Rthfhvvjb

Welcome to HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query, I will be glad to help you.

I can help guide you through removing BOSS Linux from your HP laptop. If you're unable to boot into your system, you'll need to use a bootable USB drive to help with this process.

Here’s a step-by-step guide to removing BOSS Linux and restoring your system:

1. Prepare a Bootable USB Drive with Windows or a New OS

First, you’ll need to create a bootable USB drive with the operating system you want to install (e.g., Windows or another Linux distribution).

For Windows:

For another Linux distribution (if you prefer):

  • You can use tools like Rufus or Etcher to create a bootable USB with the desired Linux OS.

2. Boot from the USB Drive

  1. Insert the bootable USB drive into your laptop.
  2. Power on your laptop and immediately press the appropriate key to enter the boot menu. For most HP laptops, this key is Esc, F9, or F12 (it should show up briefly on the screen during boot).
  3. Select your USB drive from the boot menu and press Enter.

3. Remove BOSS Linux Partition

Once you’ve booted from the USB drive, you need to remove the partition that contains BOSS Linux. Follow these steps:

For Windows installation:

  1. During the Windows installation process, you will be asked where you want to install Windows.
  2. Choose the Custom (Advanced) option for installation.
  3. The installation screen will show you a list of partitions on your hard drive. Locate the partition where BOSS Linux is installed.
  4. Select the partition(s) associated with BOSS Linux (they will likely be labeled as EXT4 or similar) and click Delete.
    • Warning: Deleting the partition will erase all data on it.
  5. After deleting, you’ll see "Unallocated Space" on the drive. Select this unallocated space and choose Next to install Windows.

For Linux installation (using a different Linux distro):

  1. Once you've booted into a live session of another Linux distribution, open GParted (a partition manager).
  2. Identify the partition where BOSS Linux is installed (usually EXT4 or similar).
  3. Delete that partition and format it if you wish.
  4. Create a new partition and set up your new Linux OS if you're installing another distribution.

4. Restore the Bootloader (if needed)

If you had GRUB or another bootloader set up by BOSS Linux, you might need to restore the Windows bootloader (if you're installing Windows) or reinstall GRUB (if you're installing a new Linux OS).

For Windows bootloader restoration:

  1. Once Windows is installed, boot from the Windows installation USB again.
  2. When you get to the installation screen, press Shift + F10 to open a command prompt.
  3. Type the following command and press Enter:
  4. Close the command prompt and restart the laptop.

For reinstalling GRUB (if using Linux):

  1. If you're installing a new Linux OS, the installation process will automatically install GRUB as the bootloader.
  2. If GRUB isn't installed automatically, you can reinstall it manually from the live session using the following commands:

5. Restart the Laptop

After removing the partitions and reinstalling the bootloader, restart your laptop. It should now boot into the new operating system, or if you installed Windows, it will boot into Windows

I hope this helps.

Take care and have a good day.
