Hello;
Allow me to welcome you to the HP forums!
I wish I had good news for you -- but I don't ...
The "registry" is not actually a file; instead, it is a collection of 4 databases, known as "hives", that are treated collectively as if they were a single file.
You can't repair it manually as it contains hundreds of thousands of discrete entries -- and no "recovery" disk is going to be able to make such repairs.
In addition, HP no longer carries Recovery Media for PCs prior to Win7. Such media though, will not repair the registry; instead, it will erase the entire drive, reformat it, and reinstall the PC from scratch.
Since HP no longer provides Recovery Media for your model, a couple of other sites you should check are: http://www.computersurgeons.com/ and http://www.restoredisks.com/
Good Luck
