e9150t
Microsoft Windows 10 (64-bit)

Am getting on-screen message -- 'low memory, remove files to restore function'  (I think) --

HP e9150t has worked flawlessly since SECOND factory rebuild, required by class-action recall; now shuts down with limited warning, function occasionally limited.

Am prepared to purchase and install additional memory.  Two questions:  1) How much total memory can this machine be equipped with; 2) will this memory be available as add-on to the 6 GB which it currently has, or is there another solution recommended?

Thanks for productive help!

Good info on using the smart phone to record the error message.  Will try next time it appears.

And I appreciate the details on what can, and cannot, be done with memory additions.  Will choose one and attempt to execute.

Thanks again for your efforts!

Memory slots: 6 DIMMS

Maximum memory: 24 GB (6 x 4 GB)

Current:  6 GB (3 x 2 GB) DDR3 PC3-10600

So, it seems that you have 3 "empty" slots available to add more RAM -- maximum of three 4GB sticks.

> getting on-screen message

What is the EXACT wording?

Could your disk-drive be "full" ?   The above web-page states:

Must select one of the following options:
  • 2 x 500 GB drives in RAID 1 (500 GB usable storage capacity), 7200 rpm, SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec)
  • 640 GB (2 x 320) 7200 rpm RAID 0, SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec)
  • 1 TB (2 x 500) 7200 rpm RAID 0, SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec)
  • 300 GB 10K rpm SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec) (Primary Drive); 640 GB 7200 rpm SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec) (Secondary Drive)
  • 640 GB 7200 rpm SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec)
  • 750 GB 7200 rpm SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec)
  • 1 TB 7200 rpm SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec)
  • 1.5 TB 7200 rpm SATA 3G (3.0 Gb/sec)

Your model is a 'CTO' ("Customized specification To match the customer's Order").

So, which of the above disk-drives is installed?

Cannot provide exact wording -- the message appears, then 'bink' is gone.

Computer has problems maybe every ten days to two weeks, depending -- I think -- on usage.

Follow-up questions:

-- Can I install some different configuration of memory other than the factory 2 GB chips?  Say, 2 x 4GB to fill two of the available three slots?

--Would this likely cause some other problem?

Am prepared to purchase and install the memory, but am unsure as to how to proceed because of the lack of information on the questions I've posed above....

Many thanks for your help!

Also:  I apparently have the hard drives you list as the first possibility:  2 x 500GB, one available for files.  The one for personal files is virtually full; I have added an outboard 1.5 TB drive as a supplemental....

Do you have a smart-phone that can record video?

If so, use it, and review the recording.

> Can I install some different configuration of memory other than the factory 2 GB chips?

> Say, 2 x 4GB to fill two of the available three slots?

From that same URL:  https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c01792852

Must select one of the following options:
  • 4 GB (2 x 2 GB) DDR3 PC3-10600 (message as PC3-8500)
  • 6 GB (3 x 2 GB) DDR3 PC3-10600 (message as PC3-8500)
  • 8 GB (4 x 2 GB) DDR3 PC3-10600 (message as PC3-8500)
  • 9 GB (4 x 2 GB, 1 x 1 GB) DDR3 PC3-10600
  • 12 GB (6 x 2 GB) DDR3 PC3-10600 (message as PC3-8500

So, there is only one configuration with the FIVE sticks that you want to use.

That configuration does not match the your intent to add TWO sticks.

Also, note that none of those configurations allows for even ONE 4GB stick.

However, another part of that document allows 24GB, spread over SIX 4GB sticks.

Of course, you can throw caution to the winds, and "experiment" with the pair of 4GB sticks, if you already have them.
