Yep, and judging by this:

https://www.theregister.co.uk/2018/01/22/intel_spectre_fix_linux/

It's all becoming a monumental farce.

EDIT: Couldn't help but add this comment from below that article:

A business decision, not technical

"Torvalds observed that the cost of using IBRS on existing hardware is so significant that no one will set the hardware capability bits".

And that is exactly the point, as a "business" mind sees it.

This way, it will be the user who becomes responsible for insecurity as he failed to turn on the protection bit.

Or he can turn it on and suffer with the resulting low performance - and that, too, will be his responsibility.

I hope HP & others will soon offer enough PCs/notebooks with Ryzen or Zen CPUs!

After the microsoft update, my realtek network card is gone. I have reinstalled the system, but that is not the sollution. When i install the drivers, i get the message there is no network card detected.

Anyone an idea?

Which update? (KBxxxxxxx). Did you try uninstalling it?

Update kb4056892, i tried to uninstall it. I have also made a clean installation of windows without this update, but it isn't recognized anymore.

Did you also install the BIOS update?

Also, did you try to install the anti-anti-Spectre update? KB4078130?

HP Recommended

Bios is updated and i downloaded KB4078130, the .exe file.

I don't think it has been installed, i see nothing it does.

Did you try downgrading the BIOS?

Hi krzemien

Bleeping computer is reporting the bad guys are about to unleash malware aimed at Meltdown and Spectre flaws.

A little bit of JavaScript in a web page is all that's needed.

Looks like we will have to disable browser JavaScript or go offline.

I have one PC that is patched for both flaws. All other PC's need the BIOS update Spectre fix. An 8700K and an ASUS Maximus X Hero MB running Windows 10 Pro is patched against both exploits.
