It seems my featurebyte not working with a virgin motherboard which already accept to save serial, product, build id,CTnumber etc.
I tried uppercase-lower case combination, bios update but no luck
could any one have any idea on it
Feature byte=3X47676S6Z6a7J7M7Q7W7saBaDapaqawbhdUeh.E
ps: I copied it from partsurfer and it is matching with the sticker on body as well

Hi @Spizzer138,
Welcome to the HP Support Community!
Thanks for reaching out!
I understand how it must be to run into a CRC failure when trying to apply the feature byte, especially after already confirming it matches the sticker and PartsSurfer details.
This generally happens if the code was mistyped, entered without the correct spacing, or if the wrong Feature Byte was used.
Could you kindly confirm :
- The exact HP model and product number of your system
- Whether the motherboard is a third party replacement or factory original.
- If you’re using HP’s official BIOS Configuration Utility (BCU) or another tool to apply the feature byte.
In the meantime, here are a few steps you can try while you confirm the above details :
- Ensure you’re running the latest BIOS version specific to your model with the help of the support website : https://support.hp.com/ (sometimes generic updates don’t align with feature byte programming).
- Double-check that the feature byte string has no hidden spaces or formatting issues when copied.
I hope this helps.
