Can't get into my computer. Shows Invalid signature detected. Check secure boot policy in setup.

I can hit enter and then it says Boot Device not found.

Hi @Jenni32,

Welcome to the HP Support Community.

Thank you for posting your query. I will be glad to help you.

Thank you for contacting HP Support. The message: “Invalid signature detected. Check Secure Boot Policy in Setup “followed by: “Boot Device Not Found”  usually points to either:

  • Corrupted boot files,
  • Secure Boot/BIOS boot configuration issues,
  • Or possible SSD/HDD detection failure.

To guide you with the correct recovery steps, could you please let us know the exact HP model name or product number of the PC/laptop?

In the meantime, please try this quick check:

  1. Turn the PC OFF completely.
  2. Turn it ON and repeatedly tap:
    • F2 → Run HP Hardware Diagnostics
  3. Check:
    • Storage/SSD Test

If the drive fails or is not detected, that would explain the “Boot Device Not Found” error.

If the drive passes:

  • Restart again and tap:
    • F10 → BIOS Setup
  • Check whether:
    • The SSD/HDD is listed under Storage,
    • And whether Secure Boot/UEFI settings were recently changed.

Once you share the exact HP model, we can provide the proper recovery steps specific to your device.

I hope this helps.

Take care and have an amazing day!

I'm an HP Employee.
