this computer came with vista. What are the chances that it will work with windows 10?
I found this list but I don't think it's on there.

If not, what other operating system would you recommend?

Greetings Silverthunder,
Welcome back to the forum.
I am not an HP employee.
HP has retired all support for your PC.
The chances of installing or running W10 on your PC is not good. You could try this. The following link will take you to the Microsoft W10 download site. You can download the W10 Media creation tool. Then follow prompts to download W10 and create a W10 installation DVD.
You could try W7 or look at Linux Mint.
An OEM copy of Windows 7 Home Premium would be very difficult to find now.
It may be time to consider buying a new PC.
Regards

Hi,
You could try W8.1.
Vista era machines may have a problem running W8.1
It would not hurt to try W8.1 as long as you have an operating system image you can use to get Vista running again.
Any OS upgrade is destructive unless you try the upgrade with a different HDD or SSD or you have a backup image you can use to set the original HDD back to the factory operating system.
Now you can go back to Vista by swapping in the Vista HDD or restore the backup image to the current HDD if the OS upgrade fails.
